Hi,

Have just started watching this on Netflix, on to Series 2.

Anybody else out there a fan?

Am I supposed to want to kick the TV in with frustration and anger when he is at his most arrogant worst? amazing grammar

Yet I can't seem to tear myself away.....am a little bit obsessed and he is NOT attractive in any way (character or him) and yet I find myself strangely attracted.

Also, his ex wife and his current woman (S2 - his cousin's widow) gah, horrid characters.

In fact, there aren't really any 'nice' characters in the show.

Why am I still avidly watching? and enjoying

Grin

i am home alone

tell me more of this abomination programme?

AKissIsNotAContract · 27/02/2013 13:03

Still haven't forgiven Denis Leary for ripping off a load of Bill Hicks stuff years ago. My mum fancies him.

EstherRancid · 27/02/2013 13:07

yeah, he was a bit of a copy cat back in the day

am i the same age as your mum, AKiss? i'd be rather tempted too

AKissIsNotAContract · 27/02/2013 13:14

My mum is 63, probably a bit old for Denis.

I think I watched the first series of this years ago & then gave up.

Esther, he's a fireman who lost.friends and family in 9/11. Separated from wife, alcoholic, utterly dysfunctional

The story focuses on him and his colleagues. It is very un PC and close to the bone in some aspects - a gay bashing Chief and frequent use of the word 'retard'. Plus, he is a basically abusing his wife - mentally and contrling.

As I read this back im actually questioning WHY I watch! It did start in 2004, is Denis Leary and is probably an accurate portrayal of language etc used by such people? I have no idea....but I am still watching albeit with the occasional hoiking of my bosom!

I really enjoyed the first few series and then never got around to watching the last one. I was a bit bored with the continual angst and the sex scenes where no one took their knickers off that sounds so wrong. I mean that the sex scenes were unrealistic Grin

It is very funny though and did move me to tears a few times (the bit about his son! Sweet Jesus! :()

If you like DL you would probably like the comedy he made called The Job -
some of same cast.
