Well it was bloody marvellous wasn't it. The last two episodes really kicked up the pace and the emotional agony, I could hardly cope.

I think they pushed their luck a bit with a couple of scenes (the bit where they scalped the slave trader and pretended he was alive seemed a stretch to me) but so much of it was superb it's hard to know where to begin the praise. Jerome Flynn has been a genuine revelation, truly amazing. Reid is just perfect, ponderous, tortured yet human. Anybody else actually jump off the sofa and indulge in fist pumping when he finally got his leg over? I absolutely love the orphanage lady, hope she's featured in the new series.

Reid's wife has a very strong presence, will be interesting to see where that goes. Will their marriage rekindle? Or will he find comfort elsewhere? Come to think of it, will she find comfort elsewhere? Go on Mrs Reid, we won't judge.

I found myself moved almost to tears by the loss of Hobbs, I had my eye on him as a grower. Long Susan may need to try some new facial expressions - hard eyes and tiny mouth will only take a character so far. And will Rose become a bobby's wife - surely not. That would be a Niles/ Daphne chemistry killer wouldn't it.

I love the newspaper editor too, though I don't understand why he sacrificed his ear to protect Jackson. Anyone know?

Really can't actually wait for the next series. Think I will rewatch this lot too, I'm sure I missed loads of detail first time round. I might not bother with the first ep though, talk about ill judged tone.

Love, love, loved it.

Is the orphanage lady the same actress who played DI Manson's wife in The Bill? I'm sure I have seen her somewhere before?

I loved this series,a nd especially Jerome Flynn (aka Paddy garvey Grin) good to see him back on tv

Jerome Flynn was in Game of Thrones recently, as was the guy who played Barnaby the brother last night! Hodor...

And it took me ages to work out (OK I had to Google it) that the actor playing the Slaver was one of the Borgia sons... it was really bugging me where I had seen him before!

It was almost the end by the time I realised that Clara (evil Victor's sister) was played by the same person who was Frankie in Lip Service. What a difference!

Sallster yes it was great to see David Oakes in last night's episode wasn't it. He does a brilliant nasty/spoiled/creepy character. Pity he won't be in Borgias Season 3! Sad

Absolutely loved Ripper Street, it just got better and better with each episode .

shipwreck - me too - as in the girl being in being human

weird series, i enjoyed the first one, got a little lost 4/5 and last episode i fell asleep in ( i think) or just didnt understand :(

the kidnapping by the brothers and sister - why did they do this?

the jangling of bells on the stand, assume had lots of girls tied up -for what reason

knew the amercian couldnt be the ripper :)

so is his daughter dead?

who was the other girl

maybe i need to rewatch on iplayer lol

the kidnapping by the brothers and sister - why did they do this? - they were selling the girls to men in South America (assume British men rather than South Americans)

the jangling of bells on the stand, assume had lots of girls tied up -for what reason - all girls they had kidnapped to sell and were keeping there until the ship sailed.

Knew the american guy was not the ripper - the prositute he was supposed to have killed was actually killed by the Pinkerton villan in the last episode to frame him.

so is his daughter dead? - looks like she is

who was the other girl - someone they found on a street corner abandoned
