Silent Witness - New Series

Just watched the second episode and was disappointed. DP and I noticed 3 or 4 fairly basic mistakes which spoiled what has been a good series in the past for me.

Am hoping the writing and research picks up in the next story.

Anyone else watch it?

I watched it, last night and tonight. I've never watched before.. So probably not getting the same mistakes as you hardcore fans! A few bits I did think eh....

Well, the mistakes we spotted tonight were:

  1. Thw two scientists in the sewer, neither photographing or documenting where they found evidence
  2. The company's solicitor (Annette) giving personal legal advice to Geraldine saying something like "as your solicitor". She wasn't she was the company's in-house solicitor, unethical to act for both
  3. Femal doctor (can't remember her name!) at the end finds the daughter telling Geraldine she found her on the DNA database. How? The daughter won't have committed a crime and therefore won't be on the database.

It spoils a programme for me when there are these types of errors in them. I know corners have to be cut to make procedures shorter or it would make very boring TV, but these are just factual mistakes.

I watched it but got disinterested apart from the wonderful Sharon Small being in it.

I didn't really notice the mistakes but I really don't like this new guy.

Tbh last season I thought it had really gone downhill (don't know if anyone remembers that horrific scene in a toilet cubicle) and the Harry in Budapest saga seemed ridiculous.

I guess it's been going for years and they're running out of story lines or something. Seems like they're trying to sex it up a bit as well. This weeks episode was really bland but next week might be better so will probably watch it.

Didn't they say the daughter had been done for something though? (Can't remember what) So she would be on DNA database??

Yes, there were a few errors which irritated me because there was a lot of emphasis on how brilliant Leo and whatserface are! They rather trumpeted the 'baddies' and I still wasn't clear about exactly what the media guy was up to with the fake long-lost daughter.

I got the feeling that we are not meant to 'like' the new guy, but that he will grow on us as the series goes on and we are dazzled by his brilliance, empathise with his sorry back-story, blah blah...

I like the new technician - she seems like a funny character Grin

The pretend daughter was "in the system" for some crime-but don´t know why the real daughter at the end was.

I like Sharon Small as well!

Seems unlikely that the "real" daughter could be on the database, a disabled (downs?) teenage who had lived in a care home all her life?

Clarissa - yes, I like her. And I like the fact the programme has a disabled character and none of the other characters discussed it,it was just normal.

Wish I looked like Emila Fox.

They really went to town with "I believe you" . That and the disabled character I thought were a good start. I would keep watching just for the new boy though. More my type than Harry was (and he was in the zone). Grin

Seabright - don't think the real daughter was on DNA database - must have traced her through other records (in which case I'm not sure why the mum couldn't have traced her herself??)
I heard a radio interview with Emilia fox and New Guy (David Caves) - he sounded so lovely in real life. It's his first telly job and he told the story of phoning his mum to tell her he'd gotten the job - walking down the street shouting "I'M IN SILENT WITNESS!!!" into his mobile. I like him

Dh works in the legal services and dealt with pathologists and police. He is flabbergasted that the paths gad abut town interviewing witnesses and investigating. Most of the show I have to keep telling him to shush as he proclaims all the errors they have made and how any case they are involved in would be thrown out of court!

they have so got a mn-er writing that script. The DI even said 'am I on the naughty step'. So far it's passing the Bechdel test which is really good. Loving the technician character.

Overthinking as per say but............
Was cross the main guy got away with it, hoping maybe he will get caught with the police
Hated the DI sleeping her way into jobs
Hate how Nicky is always right

The last series was properly messed up and we didn't ever see the episode where Harry went off to New York.....DW is annoyed as she loved the Harry:Nikki dynamic....But maybe a change is as good as a rest...

I was as well. Nike and Harry were great together. There was an out of sync episode shown after the last series aired (due to sensitive storyline) where apparently they were meant to 'end up together' but it never actually happened.

At least they kept talking about him. I hate programs where characters leave and the rest of the cast seem to develop amnesia and act as if they'd never existed.

I agree that last series was dark and bizarre in a bad way. This was more like the Silent Witness of old- with a case to solve as opposed to horrible twisted storylines.
