Did anyone watch Ripper Street on Sunday night ?

I rather liked it-especially when the Victorian old bill unashamedly ran the evil baddie through with a sword!Think they might have got some of their plot inspiration from Robert Edric's novel London Satyr which revolves around late 19th century "erotic" photography.

But enjoyed those steamy,stenchy East End streets and meaty coppering to match.Liked Matthew whatsisname (Mr Keeley Hawes) as the low-key lead as well.Sunday nights' newest guilty pleasure ?

I didn't watch it. The production was too dreary and dark for me. I have watched other stuff and was intrigued, but that one didn't do it for me. ifyswim

I started too but it just got too nasty. I honestly couldn't take it anymore and I've a pretty strong stomach for this kind of thing.

Ooh, we watched this last night (had recorded it). We love it!! Looking forward to the next episode! :)

Actually I thought this was very poor and I won't be watching it again.

The idea that right at the dawn of cinema technology someone had already invented the idea of the snuff movie was too preposterous for words!

And some of the dialogue was right up there in the silliness stakes. For example, American guy says to the madam of the brothel - "Which of your girls are in to smut?" Err wouldn't that be all of them?

Sure it must be packed with anachronisms too - we spotted one at the start when the copper was running along with a battery powered flashlight, several years before the dry cell batery was invented.

It's only a fictional series....

It didn't hold my attention really. It was so loud and ott and Ripper stuff's been done too often now for tv.

i like it. some of it jars - like how the baddies are reeeally ott and theatrical, but other than that i find it spot on!
