Royle Family....worst yet?

The last Christmas specials have been dire. The remaining four main characters are caricatures of themselves, and the complete absence of Denise and Dave's two children (even at their Christmas dinner!!) is ridiculous. It's become crude and embarassing, and Caroline Aherne should have stopped after The Queen Of Sheba, and just left us with fond memories.....

Because Anthony and her off Downton would have had a baby by now too wouldn't they?

mrsjay · 27/12/2012 10:57

Sparklingbrook · 27/12/2012 10:59

possibly mrsj or they split up and she ran off with Peter Andre and Anthony is now dating someone from TOWIE. We can just make it up as we will never know. Grin

mrsjay · 27/12/2012 11:05

she has maybe the baby stored somewhere so she could do the downtown christmas special Grin

I'm convinced that the actress who played Philomena was one and the same who played Mary... DH did not recognise her. Am I right?!!

mrsjay · 27/12/2012 11:34

no that actress died I am sure they had in memory of at the end of an episode, she was meant to look like mary though that was the whole point

Wishfulmakeupping · 27/12/2012 11:58

I love the royle family but agree this wasn't a good episode think they need to go back to basics- that whole dating sequence didn't work

Blondeshavemorefun · 27/12/2012 17:56

was crap and so boring that they all repeat what each other says

Nancy66 · 27/12/2012 18:00

Norma - Dave and Denise's youngest would be about six by now and 'baby david' would be about 12

JingleBel · 27/12/2012 18:07

GeorginaWorsley · 27/12/2012 19:48

Used to enjoy it ,being a Manchester girl myself, but didn't really like this episode.
Seemed even cruder than usual, house filthy, the kids being never seen now ridiculous.
Did smile at the last bit though.

out2lunch · 27/12/2012 20:06

i know mrsjay let's hope next year is better

LadyBeagleBaublesandBells · 28/12/2012 00:40

I'm watching the repeat of the Queen of Sheba, and already laughing and prepared to cry at the end.
It's utterly perfect.
How could she do such a genius bit of writing like this, and then write this year's crap. Sad?

It was brilliant. Cant fault it.

Cant believe that viewers were expecting to see the kids. The kids aren't supposed to be in it. That's the joke.

I agree it was pretty awful this year, I used to love the Royle family but it's got stupid and OTT now, it was good years ago when they were a believable family. The characters are just dislikeable now. My favourite used to be the one where Denise went into labour with baby David on christmas day and was in the bathroom being comforted by her dad, used to make me well up but a poster on here (can't remember who now) pointed out that everything Denise was worried about (every expectant first time mum's worries of not being a good mum, not knowing how to relate to the baby etc) all came true and she is the worst mum ever. That's taken the shine off that one for me because it's so true.

alemci · 30/12/2012 20:38

also it was horrible when Denise said that her daughter Norma had cooked the chips and made her tea. didn't find that funny.

some bits were okay.

Binfullofgibletsonthe26th · 30/12/2012 20:46

My DSD and DSS did this once while my DH was away in Iraq with the army. (when he was still married to his ex)

She proudly sent him a photo of them, balanced on stools, using the deep fat fryer.

At 5 and 6 years old. Sad
