The thing is though. Whatever the truth behind why she stayed with him, the facts are that at the age of 14 she was living with a 34 year old man.
She clearly didn't have the capacity to make that decision.
That's abuse.

JazzAnnNonMouse · 29/11/2012 22:45

Definately abuse and terrible but why do her parents now not believe her and why did the town hush it up?

Feeling unloved at home. poor thing:(

slambang · 29/11/2012 22:49

Sounds like everybody knew. She was 'living with her boyfriend' according to everyone involved and then stayed emotionally captive.

Seems as though she's been manipulated again

Weird that there were kids at that book reading. Not exactly child friendly material...

I feel really sorry for her. She was abused by the guy she babysat for before this and her parents blamed her for it and were going to send her away to a youth offender's institute! But before they could she ran away with this guy. Not surprising really, noone gave a shit about her poor girl. And you're right, she still continues to be abused by her lawyer.

DudeIAmSoFuckingRock · 30/11/2012 00:12

i'm watching it now, near the end.

my take on it is this.

she was a young, insecure girl who had had alot of emotional upset and upheaval in her life very recent to this happening.

an adult in a position of trust also happened to be a predator and he groomed her

he was successful and as a 14 year old child she became a victim of sexual grooming.

he worked his 'magic' on her brain and played on the fact that her parent's didn't care about her like he did. she beleived this as from the age of 14 she had no other influences giving her a varied opinion on her situation.

she was manipulated and abused and her family/community seemed to write her off as this being her fate.

i think people knew where she was and i think none of them believed her to be there against her will. quite honestly i dont know if she felt herself as though she was there against her will until it was all over and she had others dripping into her ear. i think she has realised since coming out just how much of a victim she was.

and yes, it doesn't surprise me that some find it hard to like her, she isn't a natural version of herself. she spent 10 years living with only 1 person to form and mould her personality and now she's trying to be a normal person in society as well as trying to come to terms with what was done to her and how people have treated her since then.

i feel very sorry for this woman.

DudeIAmSoFuckingRock · 30/11/2012 00:13

she was let down by a lot of people who should have been protecting her.

CindySherman · 30/11/2012 11:11

Just finished watching this. Poor, poor girl.

Agree with your summary Dude. Very vulnerable young girl. What a disgusting creep he is. No wonder she seems vacant and distant, she had her life stolen from her. No one gave a shit that she was gone - no newspaper coverage :(
