tanfastic · 02/11/2012 21:47

I would be swearing much more if I were him.

XBenedict · 02/11/2012 21:52

It's not real is it? It would never have got through an ethics committee. This could do him serious harm.

GlaikitFizzog · 02/11/2012 21:55

He would have signed a disclaimer during the audition process.

I'm finding it quite emotional. Even if it isn't real

OP posts:
PhyllisDoris · 02/11/2012 21:57

Bit of a rubbish ending. Bet he doesn't really change long term.

SwedishEdith · 02/11/2012 21:57

The point of it was cheap entertainment

catinwitchyboots · 02/11/2012 21:58

I think it was fucking cruel

redlac · 02/11/2012 21:59

It wasn't that entertaining since we all found out he was an actor though

SoSweetAndSoCold · 02/11/2012 22:00

Well that's two hours of my life I'll never get back.

TheLittleMe · 02/11/2012 22:00

Disappointing!

PhyllisDoris · 02/11/2012 22:00

If had been me, I would have been absolutely furious with my family.

XBenedict · 02/11/2012 22:01

Didn't buy it at all, only tuned in to watch Alan Carr Grin

snowmummy · 02/11/2012 22:02

Dreadful. Unethical. I cannot anyone would put a family member through that to teach him a lesson.

MeanAndMeaslyMiddleAges · 02/11/2012 22:02

I liked it.

I cried when he was hugging his mummy oh I want to wake up my ds and cuddle him

UltraBOF · 02/11/2012 22:03

It was nice enough. It's a shame it was so hard to believe though.

dampfireworksinthegarden · 02/11/2012 22:09

i agree with phyliss. and if i had just experienced what Steven had, and then had to walk into a room with a very smug db standing the last thing i would do is give the fecker man a hug.

and i like db. but i wouldn't if he did THAT to me. Angry

SwedishEdith · 02/11/2012 22:16

I presume money changed hands somewhere between tv company and family?

Only half paid attention to last half of each programme but totally unconvincing and, agree, completely unethical if hypnotises participant unaware of what might happen. And I've seen DB live and was impressed. But this looked seriously shit.

lookoveryourshouldernow · 02/11/2012 22:31

..OK - I'm a bit of a realist here and probably over-thinking things BUT....

...all these zombies - they would not have had access to food or drink for over a few days/weeks - would they not start to drop down dead anyway - and why didn't he sit and wait it out where (it appeared) that he had access to lots of water and tinned goods...

I did notice the outside porta-loos - nice touch !!!

starship37 · 03/11/2012 19:42

I very much enjoyed it, I do love a bit of Derren Brown.

I loved the bit at the very end when Steve was talking to "Leona" during his birthday party and she said "I'm actually older that you" Grin

starship37 · 03/11/2012 19:43

(typo! older than you)

TeddyBare · 05/11/2012 15:58

How would it come out one way or the other if it was a hoax? I really hope it was a hoax because it's so unethical and also because I hope there is another layer to this and he is going to pop up after Christmas with something related which used everyone who watched it or something.

noblegiraffe · 05/11/2012 16:15

Why is it unethical? Loads of people would love to go through that sort of transformative experience in a safe environment. Steve went to auditions in order to try to get on the show. Ok, he didn't know the precise details but presumably he is aware of Derren's previous work and will have signed some sort of release form.

TeddyBare · 05/11/2012 18:32

I don't think they knew it was Derren's show at the auditions. It must have been terrifying and I'm not sure that can be justified for entertainment even if it was "for his own good" (which it may or may not have been - only time will tell if he gets PTSD or something similar).

GlaikitFizzog · 05/11/2012 18:49

He knew it was Derren brown he was auditioning for, but he was told he had been unsuccessful.

OP posts:
noblegiraffe · 05/11/2012 18:52

Nope, he definitely knew it was Derren's show he was applying for. Derren tweeted for volunteers himself.

Derren also said there were rigorous screening procedures at the auditions to make sure Steve was mentally able to cope, psychologists on hand throughout filming and plenty of follow-up to make sure he was ok afterwards. And having seen the video of Steve afterwards, he was entirely positive about the experience.
