I read some years ago that a British man had accidentely invented a black meyal. This metal could not be destroyed by fire, crashibg etc all the usual methods but via a chemical. This metal could maje anything from a needle to a warship. The British inventor made an offer to the British Giverbment of which he would sell them his invention for so many millions of pounds. British Government said no, give it to us and from whatever we make and sell we'll give you a cut. Inventor told them on your bike. I will sell my metal to the Russians. British Government took away his rights to sell to anybidy but the British. British Governmebt will be outright owners after this mabs dwath. No mire crashes. Think I read this in tbe New Scientist magazine in the 90's.

Anybody else heard of it?

It's very interesting!

LollipopViolet · 11/10/2012 22:23

I chose row 6 online on C4 website.

I flew in row 7 on a 737 last month...

I too watch a lot of aircrash investigation - doesn't help the fear of flying!

Neither does knowing why they make me, as a visually impaired person, sit by the window...

SoleSource · 11/10/2012 22:32

It is quite an old plane. Wondering whetber a newer model would fair better for passengers?

NormanTheForeman · 11/10/2012 22:34

So, what's the verdict? (I'm not actually watching the programme....)

SoleSource · 11/10/2012 22:36

3/4 of passegers would have waljed or hobbled away with minor injuries. Seats up from row 7 are safest.

That was strangely tedious for a programme which intentionally crashed a jet plane.

LtEveDallas · 11/10/2012 22:37

Good, we're alive - sat at the back this year!

lisad123 · 11/10/2012 22:39

I'm alive...I took the ferry and sat in the lifeboat

ilovemybum · 11/10/2012 22:43

I sat at the back and survived :) impact was compared to hitting a bumper car! Although debris may of stopped my exit.

birthdaypanic · 11/10/2012 22:44

Walked away without injury.

SoleSource · 11/10/2012 22:44

Brilliant television, loved it.
Felt quite sorry for the plane though, when the pilot patted the side of it and said" " what are we doing to you" i felt sad for it!
I need to get out more !

SoleSource · 12/10/2012 13:01

I missed that bit hoodoo. I fekt sorry for the plane too, made me chuckle at my own crazyness.

The bones cracking under the seat. Ewwwwwwwwwwww

"That was strangely tedious for a programme which intentionally crashed a jet plane. "

We must have been watching different programs - I thought it was the most riveting thing I'd seen in ages. Loved the build up to the crash, the focus on all the work involved by all the different teams to make sure everything went according to plan; the skill and bravery of the pilots, the footage of the plane, the little sentimental moments (hoodoo, you weren't the only one who was sad for the plane - the flight controller was biting back the tears). It was fantastic.

LollipopViolet · 12/10/2012 19:04

I felt sad for the plane too :( Planes are supposed to sit out their retirement in aeroplane boneyards, not get crashed :(

yes, I am crazy

SoleSource · 12/10/2012 20:21

I was hoping for lots pf camera footage of what took place I.side the aircraft. Bit disappointed with the lack of. Great programme otherwise. Love to be a scientist.

Am glad didn't see it! So safest places to sit are nearest middle ir back exits?

SpanishFly · 16/10/2012 20:39

Cuckoomama, I don't understand your Jim Bob reference?

It was a pretty dull programme. Most of it was just build-up. I thought there would be more in-depth analysis after the crash. Still v interesting though.
