IMO, this is the best thing on tv at the moment. Really gripping and well acted.

Is anyone else watching it?

Love it!

Series two seems to be keeping up the pace/quality.

Dandi's hair is a good barometer of the times, all 80s and bouffant now!

Hanleyhigh · 11/10/2012 20:16

We seem to be a select band of fans Smile

Me too.

I had all the season 2 episodes saved up and watched them yesterday and the day before.

I was so impatient for the new season that I looked stuff up online and now know who dies Sad. It's only spoiled it a bit though. There are a lot of people who've been done to violent death that I didn't know about.

Why does Freddo like Donatella so much?

LittleAbruzzenBear · 12/10/2012 10:07

Hi everyone, is this based on the film of the same name? Which channel is it on please? How much have I missed? Sorry, lots of questions! It sounds like something I would watch.

fussychica · 12/10/2012 14:57

My neighbour (who had an Italian wife) adores this and was raving about it to us as we both like Montalbano. Very disappointed it's on Sky Arts which we don't get - I 'll have to try downloading it.

GothAnneGeddes · 12/10/2012 15:41

Yay! I'm not alone!

LAB - yes it's based on the same book + events as the film, although I've heard this is truer to the book then the film was.

As to why Freddo likes Donatella, I'm wondering if after telling Roberta that she didn't belong in his world, he sees Donatella as someone completely different, who definitely does belong in the criminal world.

I do like that Donatella is properly hard-faced in looks and has 80's hard-woman hair.

I have managed to resist the temptation to seek out spoilers.

However the bloke who played Nero is on twitter (I think he's the only one of them who is), I told him that the show was getting good reviews in the U.K and he told me it was a wonderful experience making it. I did want to ask him more, but didn't want to come across as too much of a fangirl.

Thanks Goth, I will try and catch up.

Hanleyhigh · 19/10/2012 07:59

I presumed one of the reasons he liked Donatella so much (apart from the obvious!) was that she was just so much better at the 'job' than any of the blokes in the gang - she's far more efficient, brighter and clinical than some of the muppets in the gang.

Hanleyhigh · 08/11/2012 16:03

Anyone watched the last episodes?

kiwigirl42 · 08/11/2012 16:12

Aw damm, I didn't realise the new series had started. I loved the firat series. Thought it was only me!

GothAnneGeddes · 12/11/2012 20:29

Hanley - me!

Absolutely blown away by them. I found it very sad. Lots of selfishness and wasted lives.

It will never happen, but I'd love a spin off featuring Donatella - possibly one of the most stone cold and capable female characters of recent times.

Yes, me & dh spent ages discussing it - no happy endings really (we conceded Roberta seemed OK but she was always on the edge of what was happening anyway.

Gutted it's finished, such a gripping story.

GothAnneGeddes · 13/11/2012 23:16

The "real" Freddo is still alive (but HIV positive) and living a quiet life in Rome.

As for the real Dandi - he was buried in a fancy church with his name spelled in diamonds on his coffin...
