It does look good. I have a feeling I've read the book.

yes I am!

MrsBovary · 25/09/2012 20:28

Yes I'm going to watch too.

I didn't think it looked up to much on seeing the preview, was only after somebody told me it was based on Bonheur des Dames that I decided it might be worth watching (I can't recall if I've read this particular book, but I've read lots of the Rougon-Macquart series). Will be interesting I think.

MunchkinsMumof2 · 25/09/2012 20:29

Me, I thought the trailers looked good!

travellingwilbury · 25/09/2012 20:38

Me too , first thing in a long time that I have actually wanted to watch .

Llareggub · 25/09/2012 21:34

I am not impressed.

travellingwilbury · 25/09/2012 22:06

I quite liked it , was a bit obvious but cosy and pleasing on the eye .

babesdontlie · 25/09/2012 22:12

nope, not impressed

MrsBovary · 25/09/2012 22:13

I'm not impressed either.

SecretNutellaFix · 25/09/2012 22:14

bit bland.

picturesinthefirelight · 25/09/2012 22:14

The trailer was better than the programme itself. I lost interest.

Llareggub · 25/09/2012 23:15

It looked very ITV to me.

out2lunch · 25/09/2012 23:16

i agree - very itv

babesdontlie · 26/09/2012 08:33

I thought Sarah Lancashire was dire.

CeliaFate · 26/09/2012 11:39

Sarah Lancashire was underused, although she seemed to have phoned in her performance so no loss.
The casting was wrong, I thought. None of the actors looked Victorian, the sets were too new looking.
I agree with the ITV feel. Not the type of programme I associate with the BBC. It was very disappointing.

lighthousekeeping · 26/09/2012 11:58

I wont be watching it again. Its a shame because I sacraficed something on the other side for it.

Turned off after 15 mins, couldn't take any more!

DuchessofMalfi · 26/09/2012 13:08

Just me who liked it then? :o Makes a refreshing change from Downton Abbey which is starting to bore me now .

KurriKurri · 26/09/2012 15:22

I persevered until the end of the episode, but I found it very dull and rather stilted. Shame - I generally like these sort of classic adaptations.

Lasted 5mins and turned over... bored.

BlueMagoo · 26/09/2012 17:17

Cheap.

Davros · 26/09/2012 18:15

Agreed, Downton can be boring and silly but I still watch and enjoy it. The Paradise just didn't "get" me at all.

UnChartered · 26/09/2012 18:18

i thought it was just me..i went to bed at 9.20 and watched 'don't tell the bride' Blush

not great then, huh?

ppeatfruit · 28/09/2012 10:44

Is it based on a French book? I was thinking it was a bad written for T.V. "let's jump on the Downton bandwagon" stuff. It was dire; also agree about Sarah Lancashire who I normally like a lot

Sadly the Beeb is falling down a lot lately in the costume drama dept. anyone remember The Hour! Which made this look good!! ITV is showing the way with DA IMO.

To think I missed some of Neil Oliver for this Shock.

ppeatfruit · 29/09/2012 12:07

I can answer my own question (how sad am I?) Grin I read an old issue of the Observer yesterday and in its recommendation section!!!! it said that it was written by Emile Zola.

So it was the screen writer\editor, producers and director who effed it up probably.
