Me!!! Seen him live 3 years ago!!!! I just love him!!! And I'm not really into magic but find him amazing!! Smile

raininginbaltimore · 18/09/2012 21:42

But that is what I love, he aims to show how blind reading/magic is all slight of hand etc.

It is brilliant.

cbeebiesinducedcoma · 18/09/2012 21:54

this is soo creepy I love I just knew the "anonymous" bidder was him.

VivaLeBeaver · 18/09/2012 21:55

Not as good as previous shows I've seen of his.

Hassled · 18/09/2012 21:56

That whole D & S thing was a massive pile of shit. Darren said the words Dexter and Sinister right before the guy was asked to write. Bah.

Hassled · 18/09/2012 21:57

And the guy is possiby The World's Most Suggestible Man.

VivaLeBeaver · 18/09/2012 21:58

Derren admits that suggestion type stuff is how it works. He's very open saying there's no such thing as magic, woo, etc. it's all mentalism.

SchrodingersMew · 18/09/2012 21:58

Love Derren Brown. :) I think the number between 1 and 9 is 6... Will probably be wrong though!

LadyEmmaHamilton · 18/09/2012 21:59

Yes, that's he point isn't it? It's all about the power of suggestion, no matter how that occurs. He's still managed to get the bloke to write the initials he wanted him to.

LeeCoakley · 18/09/2012 21:59

We saw this in Milton Keynes this year. Some boring bits - like the doll just now but I loved his painting (he did Michael Jackson for us) and his banter is brilliant. The hand in the air thing didn't work for me. Also we were wetting ourselves when the seat number was picked out! Hilarious!

VivaLeBeaver · 18/09/2012 22:01

I thought 6 as well!

SchrodingersMew · 18/09/2012 22:02

Wink But yes, Derren Brown basically aims to show that "magic" isn't real and it's all done with the power of suggestion. He's brilliant.

AndWhenYouGetThere · 18/09/2012 22:02

Schrodinger - I thought 6 too, immediately. Interesting.
The doll doesn't seem too scary to me at all, and the DS Dexter Sinister thing was quite upfront I thought.
Can't work out the relevance of the needle, apart from to add to the dolls/robots etc and just add in another common phobia?

AndWhenYouGetThere · 18/09/2012 22:03

Schrodinger and Viva - he must've "suggested" 6 to us all somehow - but I missed it.

SchrodingersMew · 18/09/2012 22:03

That is possibly the thinnest needle ever, it's pretty much a dental needle, you wouldn't feel that anyway!

SchrodingersMew · 18/09/2012 22:04

I got when he suggested it. Remember the exact bit. :) (this is when I am wrong isn't it?!)

iliketea · 18/09/2012 22:05

I know he is open(ish) about how he does these things, but it still gives me the heebiejeebies. In some ways it is more worrying that using known psychological techniques can have that effect on some people. Remember when he got people to carry out an armed robbery and confess to murders they didn't commit?

And that doll thing is the stuff of my nightmares.

iliketea · 18/09/2012 22:06

And I thought 1 for the 'single.digit' - have to wait up to see what it was now.

SchrodingersMew · 18/09/2012 22:07

Iliketea Did you know he's pretty much banned from every casino?

I thought the best one was where he made the woman think she had seen her own death...

I basically see him like the real life Carl Lightman from "Lie to Me".

VivaLeBeaver · 18/09/2012 22:07

I've done the needle thing after been hypnotised by a stage hypnotist years ago. I stabbed my hand various times with a needle and didn't feel a thing.

I do sometimes see how he does the suggestion.

Do you think the bloke who admitted it really was the guy who wrote the wanking confession? Or is it just human nature to want to please someone so much that you agree to something so embarrassing just so the trick doesn't fail?

VivaLeBeaver · 18/09/2012 22:08

I remember a programme where he went to a casino in France and was filming with a hidden camera. Can't remember the details though.

PickledMoomin · 18/09/2012 22:08

I saw this in Cardiff. He painted Marilyn Monroe. The next part made me quite teary

SchrodingersMew · 18/09/2012 22:09

Viva See my comment about the real Carl Lightman. I think he was the guy that wrote the confession and Derren Brown is just amazing at detecting deception. :) I think...

AndWhenYouGetThere · 18/09/2012 22:09

I don't think anyone (wooden or otherwise) would have bled from that needle. Too small, and only on the surface of the skin - nowhere near a blood vessel.

I though 1 for the single digit too, but I think that's to do with all the harshly pronounced sIngle DIgIt I's.

OP posts:
PickledMoomin · 18/09/2012 22:11

It's been cut. He 'connected' with a dead relative of a woman in the audience via Svengali and the doll showed she was thinking of her dad and her memory of him (planes).
