Eastenders - what has gone wrong between Kat and Alfie?

I have started watching Eastenders again now that Sharon is back, after years of not watching due to work/settling DS at night/cooking dinner at that time etc.

The last I remember about Kat and Alfie is them getting married on Christmas day and Alfie hiring a snow machine and they were all loved up.

What went wrong?

What happened was:

The scriptwriters can't let anyone be happy so they make out that Alfie takes Kat for granted which entitles her to have an affair. In actual fact, Alfie loves her to bits but has other things in his life like, oh I don't know, making a living and running a busy pub.

Kat has no self esteem so she keeps messing up a perfectly good relationship and Alfie forgives her. After a few weeks, the scriptwriters pull out the same old tired idea and Kat has an affair/shag in an alleyway again.

Repeat until panto season when Shane Ricthie has to disappear to "get over it".

Or something.

Short version- they only have one storyline for happily married couples- an affair. Rinse and repeat.

Cheers - EE as predictable as ever then! I am quite (disproportionately) sad about it really. I loved Kat and Alfie as they were.
