Country house rescue - the F***ing Fulfords

Please God let no-one give this family any more publicity. They are the most obnoxious couple ever. Can't be bothered to do anything which isn't fun.

I thought the shooting party and film clubs were great ideas but all they seemed to want was a business where they could stand around and chat to mates.

Presumably all their money goes on boarding school fees with four children "away". They seem like relics from 100 years ago and assume that because of the family they were born into they don't need to work.

It was such a lovely house but it seems they will just leave it to rot. A total contrast to last week's owner who loved her home and would do anything to earn it's keep.

Whem was this programme shown?

LOL @ your intro. You love them really Grin

usualsuspect · 06/07/2012 15:27

I love this programme , when is it on?

germyrabbit · 06/07/2012 15:29

agree, they were just embarrassing, she couldn't stay in the same room whenerever anyone spoken sense and the bloke didn't seem to be able to stay sober for five minutes.

waste of a programme really and i quite like that series!

BooToYouToo · 06/07/2012 16:03

It is on at 8 pm on Thursdays on Channel 4, think this was the 3rd in the series.

Germy, I agree he was a total pisser. Seemed to think that offering unlimited alcohol with dinner would leave guests happy to pay £275 per night despite the house falling down around their ears.

fivegomadindorset · 06/07/2012 16:06

I always used to feel sorry for her but now I don't, she was worse than he was.

PoppyWearer · 06/07/2012 16:07

They were awful, came over very badly!

albertswearengen · 06/07/2012 16:13

I agree it was a waste of a programme.
Normally I'm rooting for the poor sods in the programme but quite frankly I didn't care if it fell about round their ears she came across as a most disagreeable woman.
I guffawed a bit when she called it a Stately Home.

leeloo1 · 06/07/2012 16:46

I've just watched it on sky+ and OMG how awful were they?! She was out and out rude. I love the idea of old families owning stately homes and usually feel so awful when watching these programs for the families struggling to make ends meet to preserve these buildings etc.

These people... well... I hope they are forced to sell up to someone who actually appreciates the building and is willing to do more with it than just have jollies for their mates! Grrrrr! They have such a sense of entitlement which just isn't appropriate in this day and age (or certainly not when they're leaving such an awful legacy for their children - some of whom were said to be on gap years btw). Angry

leeloo1 · 06/07/2012 16:48

Oh I was pushed to google the Digby chap at Mintern House though, as he (and his house) seemed lovely - sadly their house is only available for massive functions, so unless I get married again (and win the lottery!) I won't be trying out their b&b.

usualsuspect · 06/07/2012 16:59

I've just watched it, what a pair of idiots

Mrsjay · 06/07/2012 17:31

IS it not a repeat or have they had their own programme ? they are vile people whatever ,

leeloo1 · 06/07/2012 18:22

They did have their own show MrsJay it was called 'the filthy fulfords' I think - based on how dirty they were and how much they swore. I know I saw it, but can't remember much other than the kids running wild round the house/grounds... so maybe it was more sympathetically edited than this one? Although I'm sure that there was some commentary at the time about how poor exactly they were when she seemed to be very well dressed.

purpleprudence · 06/07/2012 22:15

I remembered these vile people from the documentary " The Fulfords" from years ago . I had forgotten quite how awful they were , is this what too much inbreeding amongst the "upper" classes does - produce these idiots . Good breeding should produce good manners but in this case seem to have bred a huge sense of entitlement and massive self delusion . Did Mr F think he was being amusing , did Mrs F think she was being charming ? I feel sorry for their offspring who I seem to recall from the previous programme were allowed to run wild but its good to know that although neither of the parents work and run the house on £10000 pa they can afford to send them to private schools and on gap years . I do hope they have to sell the house - preferably to a foreign oligarch , and end their pointless existence living in penury .

fivegomadindorset · 07/07/2012 07:40

The Digby chap is very pleasant as is his wife, they are friends of my brothers, I have been shooting with her. The house is indeed gorgeous.

leeloo1 · 07/07/2012 07:51

Glad to know the Digbys are as nice as they came across in the show. His poor tongue must have hurt from biting it when he told Fulford he charged £190 b&b for his beautiful rooms and F said 'oh we're not far off the mark then charging £275 as we give dinner too'. Digby must have been thinking 'but your house is like a hovel!!! Grin but he looked far too polite to say so.

bunnybing · 07/07/2012 12:46

I thought they were hilarious - suspect they had no intention of listening to any suggestions and just wanted to be on telly.

UnChartered · 07/07/2012 12:52

damn - i didn't know this was on

4OD sorted for tonights viewing Grin

Blondeshavemorefun · 08/07/2012 00:46

found on youtube

Monisey · 08/07/2012 18:29

I love this show, and I like the guy that is doing it now.

Does anyone know why Ruth Watson stopped doing it?

QOD · 09/07/2012 20:07

Can't watch online, crap broadband, but doesn't show as on on Thursday?

amillionyears · 09/07/2012 20:12

Havent seen the previous programmes about them.
I wondered whether she was actually depressed. She couldnt seem to be able to work up any energy or enthusiasm about anything.
And perhaps they were just after the fee for the programme,so they could while away another year or whatever.

delphinium22 · 13/07/2012 18:16

I've only just caught up with this Country House Rescue about the Fulfords. Omg, I was initially amazed by his outdated sense of entitlement but then she appeared and I thought she just had to be the most vile person I have yet to encounter. One wonders what sort of kids they have produced, I cannot begin to imagine what her parenting skills must be like. Pity them!

Why not just sell the odd farm and rescue the property. They have ten in total. They don't deserve to be in charge of such a beautiful home. It wouldn't be difficult to do up the hall and host many weddings and events to pay for the renovations.

DukeHumfrey · 18/08/2012 22:22

Oh my god. I have just seen this episode (catching up). They are total nutters. Did they have any intention of acting on this advice? Maybe Mr F just fancied Ruth Watson turning up and Mrs didn't fancy Simon Thingy so much.

I don't think Simon thingy is amazing but at least he doesn't do what Ruth Watson did and only suggest a tiny range of possible businesses (mostly touristy).
