I am lost without my True Blood and Breaking Bad, come and tell me some good stuff to watch until the new seasons start

I have nothing to watch, nothing at all seems to match up to Breaking Bad but it is not released over here until October 1st.
I have Netflix and can download stuff on iTunes but just can't find anything I like the look of.
I did fancy West Wing but then my friend said it was a bit meh, is it?

I believe some people might watch true blood season 5 on curcirca.

Is breaking bad worth persevering with? I got 3 episodes in and found it all very gruesome.

Watch Dexter (possibly more gruesome, but in a different way).

LittleWhiteWolf · 03/07/2012 18:16

Sons of Anarchy is something my DH and I have watched. We keep being recommended Breaking Bad, so there must be a link there somewhere. Dh also loves Tru Blood.

JarethTheGoblinKing · 03/07/2012 18:19

Oh, and West Wing isn't meh. At all. One of the best series I've ever seen. Give it a good few episodes though.

Oh, Game of Thrones is amazing (first 2 episodes a bit slow but worth sticking with)

What other things do you like?

What about Misfits?

JarethTheGoblinKing · 04/07/2012 00:26

Bumping for you

TotemPole · 04/07/2012 02:41

Jareth, with Breaking Bad I was into it from the first episode. What I like about it is I couldn't predict what was going to happen. The good and bad is blurred. Also the black humour, tension and shocks.

There are some threads on Digital Spy with similar opinion to yours. They've watched a few episodes or half way through the first season and wondering whether to continue. I'd say give it another go, but it might be one of those that you just don't get into, iyswim.

I thought Misfits was great and Dexter too.

I'd recommend Being Human - last series wasn't as good, Ultraviolet - only one series with 6 episodes, Oz - this is violent, it has a few Dexter and Lost actors.

comewwhinewithme · 04/07/2012 13:13

Thanks for all these. I'm up to date with Dexter, have got the GOT boxset but am not that impressed, I just started watching The 4400 on netflix last night and it seems ok.
Breaking Bad is amazing I keep trying to get everyone to watch it! My life is a bit boring without it saddo

Oz looks really good.

I was hooked. There are a few story lines that are a bit unbelievable.

There's a fair amount of male nudity and scenes of men sitting on the toilet.Grin

I haven't tried it myself yet but Weeds is recommended quite a few times on DS.

The 4400 looks good.

LittleWhiteWolf · 04/07/2012 22:31

It took me a while to get into game of thrones, but it really is amazing.

I like Boardwalk Empire
Obviously the Wire and the Sopranos
American Horror Story - genuinely scary, ended on a conclusion. There's a second season coming up with some of the same cast (the excellent Jessica Lange) but a completely different storyline.

Foreign stuff - Romanzo Criminale, I'm watching it again atm and you pick up loads of clues as to why people do the things they do in later episodes
Braquo which got a bit silly but I still liked it
Have several episodes of Prisoners of War but haven't watched them so I don't know whether it's good.

Cancelled stuff - Sleeper Cell, about Islamist terrorists in the US. It was excellent, explained their motives and the main character looked like this
Now and Again - stupid fun in which a man is brought back to life after a violent death and becomes a pawn for a shadowy US govt agency. The main character looked like this at least once an episode
Luck - horse racing drama which was cancelled on animal welfare grounds or more likely because the ratings didn't match the cost.

You could try and download the first season of a show called Murder One from about 1995 which was the first of those multi-stranded stories set over about 20 episodes. It was about a murder case involving a young actor and you kept guessing whether he was guilty or not over the series. It had lots of good actors including Stanley Tucci when he had hair. The good thing was that it ended on a conclusion not a cliffhanger. The second series didn't have the same cast and wasn't very good.

Hell on Wheels is good if you like westerns. Not as wordy as Deadwood, which I also liked despite it having a script like the West Wing set in South Dakota.

I also like Royal Pains which follows the adventures of a brilliant doctor in The Hamptons. It's a bit like House but for shallow people.

Oh Totem Weeds definitely. I suspect Mary-Louise Parker bathes in the blood of virgins, so spookily ageless is she.

I got dazzled by the links. Easily done. The Now and Again bloke <a class="break-all" href="http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=eric+close+shirtless&um=1&hl=en&biw=624&bih=776&tbm=isch&tbnid=PqtqUO5-uZUCEM:&imgrefurl=www.ohlalaparis.com/ohlalaparis/television_2007/page/6/&docid=JbXkXmOioycAbM&imgurl=www.ohlalaparis.com/photos/uncategorized/2007/08/07/ericclose07080701.jpg&w=465&h=289&ei=_WX1T6adNdKb1AXWtvC4Bw&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=97&vpy=2&dur=78&hovh=177&hovw=285&tx=105&ty=88&sig=103178579041322944449&page=1&tbnh=129&tbnw=202&start=0&ndsp=14&ved=1t:429,r:0,s:0,i:70" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">looked like this at least once an episode

SchrodingersMew · 05/07/2012 11:07

Eureka is very good. OP do you have UK netflix? Someone I know me has changed the DNS settings on their xbox so they get American Netflix, which is amazing, also has Breaking Bad on it and a million other amazing TV shows.

:)

limitedperiodonly · 05/07/2012 11:07

I forgot Nurse Jackie

JarethTheGoblinKing · 05/07/2012 11:14

Weeds is amazing - The end of most episodes made me like this > Shock

Grin

(and this has reminded me that series 6 is out, so have just added it to Love Film - hurrah!)
