Is anybody watching this?

I'm watching in amazement at how easy it is to add huge amounts of extra calories without really knowing/intending to. 300 cals on sauces?! Shock

I am watching this because I am tired and there is nothing else on...

What is scary is how some people have lost touch with what normal eating is.

Blondeshavemorefun · 06/06/2012 21:44

i watch each week

all the little nibbling they do let alone portion sizes and then they wonder why they have put weight on

FrillyMilly · 06/06/2012 21:55

I watched this. 7000 calories in one day!! That really shocked me. When did it become normal to have several chocolate bars every day. I'm also shocked that someone can be that blind to what they eat.

AllPastYears · 06/06/2012 22:23

Yes, saw this Shock. Stopping off at McDonalds for large fries, large coke, and was it large cheeseburgers plus large chickenburger -for a snack? And she thinks she doesn't eat that much, most of it healthy, and wonders why she's fat? (Wonder what her dog has been eating.)

FoofFighter · 07/06/2012 00:19

Ok in my OP I meant it from the other angle actually, not a fatty bashing thread Hmm
As someone who makes every meal from scratch, doesn't have the money for takeaways and rarely drinks and is overweight I found it quite eye opening.
Like that you can eat healthy meals yet be caught out - that lad's sandwich for instance, over 1000 calories? the sauces 300 calories?

foof I know what you mean. I got a cheese pasta salad from Tesco and it had more calories in it then a McDonalds meal!

GoodPhariseeofDerby · 07/06/2012 01:14

Some things can have a surprising amount of calories. I found the sauces thing quite interesting, I think that is many people's downfalls.

Also the effect sweet calorie free drinks and foods can have on some people was quite interesting - a lot of the diet food probably has similar effect (makes your body expect something and when it doesn't get it makes you hungry again).

FoofFighter · 07/06/2012 05:26

The grated cheese was surprising, I always have a generous sprinkle on pasta dishes but really it's empty calories for the effect it has on taste. I think I'll buy an ultra strong cheese and halve the amount.

AllPastYears · 07/06/2012 08:59

And is a "portion" of cheese really matchbox sized? Shock

AllPastYears · 07/06/2012 10:00

Wasn't fatty-bashing by the way, just amazed at the denial of the McDonalds, cakes and chocolate bars. It's one thing to eat lots and find it hard not to, but to claim - to yourself as well as to others - that you're eating healthily when you're obviously not...

FrillyMilly · 07/06/2012 10:12

I think some of it is shame. It's easier to say I'm fat but I don't know why cos I only eat 1800 calories rather than yes I'm fat because I eat way too much. I didn't realise sauces had that many calories but that's the least of her problems really when the meal consisted of large fizzy drink, large fried, chicken burger with mayo and two cheeseburgers especially when she had already eaten biscuits, crisps and Chinese takeaway leftovers.

FoofFighter · 07/06/2012 12:53

I think perhaps only fellow "sufferers" will understand what I mean Sad

OP posts:
ElizabethSwann · 07/06/2012 12:57

I understand. I recently joined a slimming club and was shocked by the fat and calories of some foods we just blithely buy. Some sandwiches can be very calorific but you can end up thinking " oh I only had a sandwich & diet coke at lunch. Easy to lose sight of what is normal.

bigTillyMint · 07/06/2012 13:03

DS and I were watching this open-mouthed at both how many empty calories were in the "snacks" (that McDonalds drive-in mealShock) and how they could think that it is OK to have a chocolate bar with virtually every cuppa.

slatternlymother · 07/06/2012 13:05

I am a food addict, and although now I am a size 12 and nearly at my goal, I have totally had to overhaul my life. For instance; I don't even buy cheese or sauces now. I might have them when I'm out if a dish has it in but that's it.
