Yay thanks Smile so hard to try and talk about it without talking about it!
I thought it was an ok episode but not as great as previous series ends.

Honestly - I was a bit disappointed.

I was sad at Lexi going - definitely killed the wrong Grey off in my view!

Mark was making me a bit sad - presumably they packed him off to rehab and then they'll see if he's allowed back dies of his injuries

I honestly thought they were going to kill someone (probably Cristina) off in the final seconds - the kind of blood clot that suddenly makes them die, ruptured spleen or whatever else it was used to suddenly make them keel over in ER (thinks of poor stabbed Lucy).

I figure they can't kill Arizona as not only are her and Callie the best thing in it (although Bailey and the anaesthetist might start giving them a run for their money) and plus Callie has already been widowed once.

I'd have put Kepner on the plane, plus Teddy...

Nooo not Cristina I love her Smile I think her Meredith and Derek will be ok. I hope Arizona makes it I love her and her 'tiny humans'

Morgan · 31/05/2012 22:25

I agree it was rather weak - somehow seemed over the top so will be interesting to see what happens next . Poor Lexi though after the I love you speech last episode .

kaumana · 31/05/2012 22:38

Im confused..was the last one in the series Meredith laying on the ground post plane crash?

tribpot · 31/05/2012 22:39

No, kaumama, you're a week behind. You should stop reading this thread now.

strawberrypenguin · 31/05/2012 22:41

No kau there was one more after that, you might want to step away from this thread Smile

kaumana · 31/05/2012 22:41

Ok have closed my eyes and am backing away..

kaumana · 31/05/2012 22:46

Fek me, found it on my Tivo, thought last week was the end .Going to watch it now!

tribpot · 31/05/2012 22:48

Right. Just watched it on Sky Go.

I liked the not showing of the plane crash, although the presence of the pilot seems rather jarring, esp as so far he hasn't added anything to the plot (except to say the transponder wotsit is bust, grreat).

Arizona seems to be edging closer to her crisis, I think the intention of this was to leave it open as to whether Jessica Capshaw re-signs. But as a narrative it seemed very odd.

Lexie's death was sad but nothing compared to the shootings at the end of S6. I'd almost rather Mark didn't make it so they can 'be together' finally.

It seems like they're setting up at least Derek and Cristina to be unable to perform surgery again, WTF was Derek up to with that rock at the beginning?

Shame not to have had the realisation moment when the staff back at base realised the plane had gone down. All in all a bit disjointed and odd.

strawberrypenguin · 31/05/2012 23:08

Yeah s6 was much more powerful.

I think Cristina will do surgery again not so sure about Derek

He was freeing his arm with that rock, his arm was stuck through a gap in that bit of plane

BlingBubbles · 31/05/2012 23:10

I adore Greys but was very let down by the final episode, I was so looking forward to it and all the promo's looked great but then the actual episode was anti-climax. All the good stuff happened in the first 15mins.

I realise that when that episode was written and filmed non of the original cast members had signed up for the next season so the episode had to end the way it did, to leave it open in case non of them signed up, but I would have still liked a better ending.

Wasn't up there with the best season finales(Denny dying, George dying and the shooting) but it was ok.

Roll on next season Grin

kaumana · 31/05/2012 23:12

OMG. OMG jumping in while ff Tivo..

tribpot · 31/05/2012 23:15

So assuming this was some kind of stand-off between producers and cast, you solve it by:

  • signing two cast members
  • writing an awesome double-header episode just for them
  • bosh

Or basically have them all in mortal peril, not an unreasonable state of affairs after a plane crash. In fact, why not just crash the plane at the end of the episode? I understand why kaumana thought last week's was the season finale.

BlingBubbles · 31/05/2012 23:22

The stupid thing was, Shonda Rhimes said a few weeks before the final episode aired in the states that one very loved character would die in the final... Clearly this had everyone speculating who would die as no contracts had been signed, then a week before the final aired the main cast signed their contracts and we all then knew they would be safe and back for the next season! So that kind of ruined the suspense.

Think I should stop reading twitter and e online Wink

Cherrypi · 31/05/2012 23:28

Think they had to kill off Lexi she was a bit of a spare part in the show like Lucy in ER. They hadn't done anything interesting with her for a while. I liked that Christina commented on all the disasters that had happened to them Grin Plane crash is a bit cliched really.

kaumana · 31/05/2012 23:32

Just finished watching so can now read this thread.

Cherrypi · 31/05/2012 23:32

The pilot was Mark in Ally McBeal by the way in case that was bugging anyone else.

bronze · 31/05/2012 23:53

It had nothing on the shooting
Dereks hand just need the surface above it pressing/ You could see how they put it in.
DOn't want Lexie to die. She was one of my favourites, better than meredith. They could have killed M off and still have the greys part with Lexie

Theres a lot of gossip saying Dereks/Dempsey is not returning so hadn injury leaves that free from him to not work again I guess

"Shame not to have had the realisation moment when the staff back at base realised the plane had gone down. All in all a bit disjointed and odd." They were about to werent they because Hunt heard that answerphone message fromt he other hospital

tribpot · 01/06/2012 00:01

Yes - and you'd think someone would have become concerned sooner, given they must have filed a flight plan before they took off.

I have to say I never really understood why Derek was so blasé about leaving his amazing house to go with Meredith to Boston. I totally understand that he would make that decision (esp in light of the fact he's a world class surgeon so can work wherever he damn well chooses) but he was all a bit like: meh, house. When he's been working on the bloody thing for 8 friggin series. I'm assuming at least some of them now will decide to stay in Seattle, although quite on what basis I don't know.

The firing of Teddy was also pretty lame; perhaps it's hard when all the contract negotiations are being reported publicly but it really felt like it was being driven by the need to put the maximum number of characters at risk of non-renewal.

DarrowbyEightFive · 01/06/2012 00:24

I'm never flying with that airline - plane goes down, breaks in bits, first-aid kit falls out, flare gun doesn't work, distress signal is broke...

BlingBubbles · 01/06/2012 07:41

Bronze, Patrick Dempsey has now signed up for another 2 seasons, as have all the original cast, so I am guessing the plane crash will want to make them all stay and with Teddy leaving it leaves cardio open for Christina

Jcee · 01/06/2012 14:54

I thought it was a bit rubbish and am a bit annoyed about it - did none of them have their phones? Why didn't the pilot try to do a distress call? Or tell Christina what to do? Why didn't the hospital know what time they were due to arrive? Didn't the airport wonder where their flight was?

I didn't want Lexie to die as I like her much more than whingey meredith but as cherrypi said she'd been a bit part for most of this series with not much to do except moon about over Mark which was getting a bit boring

It all seemed to be a bit disjointed and a random selection of events to make you wonder who'll be around next series...by the end I was struggling to care...

FrillyMilly · 01/06/2012 16:47

It wasn't as moving as any of the other finales. It didn't seem vey realistic either. I watch a lot of air crash investigation and I can't see how a plane can crash and nobody know where it is.
