Emmerdale - the learning to read topic

I'm just watching it and I found myself nearly in tears at the woman who is with Ruby making her first attempt to read aloud, (her son's card). Can't ever imagine there are people in our part of the world who grow up unable to read even though you hear about it all the time.

Just wanted to share.

Sadly it is a very real situation the actress is portraying excellently imo.
I like the storyline for its awarenss raising

Emmerdale is tackling a lot of stuff of late and doing it very well imo. The Ashley elder abuse story showing that this can happen in any family, no matter how seemingly respectable. Zak's breakdown, also showing that even big bluff Yorkshiremen can have mental health issues and the Aaron and Jackson plot back in the winter tackling assisted suicide. They're certainly not shying away from some current topics.

I think it really does top the others for the topics it is covering and the way it it doing it too. Not just having horrible things happening again and again and again.

YY Emmerdale is tackling issues well and in a balanced way.

Emmerdale is my favourite soap - love the characters and the fact that most evenings IT IS ON AT THE SAME TIME - I gave up on Coronation Street when the timeslot kept moving to make way for shite football.

Agree with all of above, but would offer a critisism that the woman who couldnt read, seems to be able to manage it after 3 weeks. That doesnt seem very realistic to me .
