House final episode - WARNING SPOILERS

I'm surprised I can't already find a thread on this discussing the final episode now it's been screened in UK, apologies if I've missed one.

SPOILERS

What did you think of it? I have to admit I found it quite annoying and implausible, despite generally being a big fan.

  • How could he have escaped from the building? It looked as if he was close to the front door, there were flames behind him and to the sides and he's not exactly known for his ability to sprint and leap. Seconds later the explosion happened.
  • Given the above, was his escape even real? Or were the final scenes supposed to be Wilson's fantasy?
  • If he did fake his death, then had the heroin addict agreed to kill himself as part of the plan?
  • Why has nobody mentioned the incident when he nearly strangled the patient in the previous episode? He could easily have killed the patient if Park hadn't stopped him. OK from the viewer's point of view we understand why House snapped at that point and have some sympathy for him, but the patient's mother witnessed it and I doubt she would have been willing to let it go? Everyone kept going on about flushing the tickets down the toilet, as if that was more serious than assaulting a patient. IMO assaulting a patient is far more serious offence and IRL I would have thought it would be straight back to prison at that point (because he seriously assaulted a patient) rather than carrying on working in the hospital.

I did like the final motorbike scene and the 'Enjoy Yourself' song at the end though.

It wasn't as good as I was hoping for at all. I have no idea how he got out but it wasn't filmed in a way to make me think that it was just Wilson's imagination.

I couldn't figure out what happened with the heroin addict - why was House with him? How did the fire start?

Agree about the assault on the patient, I can't see a doctor getting away with anything like that in real life. Also, does flushing pieces of paper also equal vandalism and a return to prison? It seems a littlefar-fetched.

I really was hoping for a lot more from a final episode Sad

House said that he switched the dental records (so people would think the dead addict was House), He would have had to do this in advance so must have planned for the addict to die as the plan wouldnt work otherwise. I suppose House started the fire too, if he was faking his own death.

He would only have switched the dental records if he'd planned to survive the fire - but I didn't think he did right up til Cameron said he was a coward but wouldn't admit he was a coward.... So I don't think he meant to survive, in which case when did he have time to switch the records? The sequencing isn't really helping me believe it....

But I liked the ending, with the bikes and the song....

I liked them driving off into the pastoral paradise - know it's American, but did not want him to die. Friendship bit was heart warming.

I've been watching House for years, guilty pleasure, thought it was just me then realised he was a huge star and a smash hit.

Last series was enjoyable but his behaviour became outlandish and unbelievable but as Drama it was entertaining. I liked the scenes with his new wife and wished he could have gained a bit more domestic bliss.

Grew to like the character more as time went by as did Hugh Lawrie apparently - couldn't help but see the generous sides to this egomaniac.

last episode - found the fire scene a bit irritating trying too hard to work out what was going on or going to happen - suppose that is good suspense. Thought funeral was really good - including final text. Yeah, where's Cuddy? Not enough pay? Moved on? Makes sense in story line as she was so emphatic that she never wanted to see House again

Will miss House - end of an era - what next? More Scandi Drama ?

Just seen there are two threads on this.

Did anyone wonder how fingerprints could be found (never mind legible writing) on a programme that had been flushed down the toilet?

Also, since when does one blocked up loo bring down a whole hospital?

AndiMac · 28/05/2012 23:13

Cuddy wasn't in it because the actor, Lisa Edelstein left last year after her contract finished at the end of season 7. The show was givena budget cut, and it's assumed they tried to lowball her offer for the last season and so she left rather than take a crappy offer. Therefore she may have been too busy working on something else to shoot for House or she and the studio aren't really on speaking terms after her departure. I missed her as well.

However, I still liked the final episode. I agree there are some plot holes in it, but I'm willing to overlook them as I found the ending emotionally satisfying. House actually did something that benefitted his friend rather than himself. And it mirrors a bit the "Sherlock Holmes is dead/no he isn't" story, which I also find appealing.

I knew they were going to name Chase the head of diagnostics. Even before the last one where he quit, they had been setting him up with the Aha moment to solve the cases and everyone was subtly deferring to him.

Sigh. It's finished. Between that and 6 Feet Under reruns finishing this year, I'm left with no TV dramas that interest me.

I liked the bit where House and Wilson rode off. I'd said to dh they'd either have a suicide pact, or do a Thelma and Louise.

Did Foreman realise House faked his own death? When he found House's ID under the wobbly coffee table leg, I thought he realised.
