I've been speculating all week and am now almost beside myself.

My theory is this:

Brody was teaching Abu Nazir's son, Isa, to speak English. Then Isa was killed by a bomb.

OK what if Isa wasn't Abu Nazir's son? What if he told Brody that? The clip that keeps being shown, where Abu Nazir is watching the Vice President deny any American involvement, seems to indicate that's the moment that Brody turns, because he can see the Americans are lying.

What if he's actually looking at Abu Nazir and realises that he really is the enemy, after being seduced by his charm and friendliness? He realises that it's all a plot to make him, Brody, change allegiance? He loved Isa and realises that Abu Nazir has killed innocent children in an attempt to turn him.

So he plans a double bluff. He realises he has more chance both of escape and capture of Abu Nazir if he appears to turn. He comes back to the US a hero and plots a way of punishing those involved.

I don't think Brody is guilty of turning allegiance. I also don't think he's going to commit suicide. He is the hero and nobody nowadays in the West would see suicide for a cause as admirable. I also don't think Walker kills Brody. That would make Walker a hero of a kind and he's more of an incidental character. If Brody dies the message is either that troops can't be trusted or that heroes can be killed by villains.

As to who's involved within the CIA - I thought at first it would be Saul. Usually if someone's involved like this, they show their background, their home, etc. They did this with Saul. He has a deep sadness that would tie in with a cause, but I think essentially he's a good man.

David, on the other hand... We didn't see his lie detector results, did we? I will be disappointed if it's him as I think they could have rounded out his character, but I think it has to be, simply by process of elimination.

And Carrie - what a fantastic actress. When she's agitated, I feel agitated. I don't know about you, but the way I feel about her is the way her sister feels about her and I think that's very clever work.

So - what do you think will happen tonight?

BTW don't Google Homeland today as there is a site which seems to say moment by moment what happens. I didn't read past the first line but it didn't seem to be talking about past programmes. It must have aired in the US already.

I'm struggling with the fact that there's a second series. So I don't think it can all be concluded tonight.

But I haven't felt this way about a programme for yonks - I'm on tenterhooks as well!

I like your theory about it not being the USA that killed Isa - very good.

(fingers crossed everyone is kind and doesn't post spoilers on here - can someone please PM me if I should avoid this thread?)

ImperialBlether · 06/05/2012 11:56

Chaos, did you watch The Killing - the first one? Tenterhooks doesn't begin to describe how we felt on here then.

I thought the second series would be to do with the CIA rather than Brody. Or maybe Brody would be there as a Senator or whatever he was going to be.

I can't see how there could be a second series with Brody playing a major part - it wouldn't make sense. This series is his story; surely another series should be someone else's?

Also - when David came to Carrie's house and pulled down all her work - surely if he was a goodie he would have been interested in what she was thinking? He would never destroy it in case there was something there was that important.

I don't think (given the way the US is) that the US were involved in that killing. In real life, yes, but not on tv. They like the hero and they like a positive self image.

I haven't seen the trailers and switched over before the "in next week's episode" bit.

So this might be rubbish. BUT I think Walker tries to kill the President.

The Vice President and all his cronies - including Brody - head for their bunker (as Abu Nazir knows he will). The plan is for Brody to blow himself up there - and everyone else too.

But the plan fails - the vest doesn't detonate for some reason.

So at the end we know Brody is definitely a baddie. By series two he and the VP etc will have madly bonded in the bunker so will be even more dangerous. Abu N will be demanding to know why Brody didn't carry out his mission and will be raising the stakes for what he wants him to do even higher.

If Walker actually killed the president, the VP could be president himself with Brody standing for VP in series 2?

difficultpickle · 06/05/2012 14:38

I agree that David is a baddie and I think Brody is too.

ImperialBlether · 06/05/2012 15:50

Noooooooooooooooo say it's not so!

I think it all depends on whether series two is a continuation of this story, or whether it's just the CIA team with another problem.

I agree Walker will be trying to kill the President.

I just don't think Brody is a baddie - there's no real story if he is, ie Soldier comes back after being captured, CIA think he's a baddie and he is a baddie. End of story.

That's not a story! There has to be a surprise ending. If we find out Brody is bad, that's not a surprise.

I'm working on the basis that David and Brody are both English actors and usually in US shows the baddies are English! I just hope it is as good as the trailer appears to indicate.

I also think there is a hitherto unidentified connection between David and Brody.

ImperialBlether · 06/05/2012 18:30

David was the person Brody rang, wasn't he, just before Carrie's documents were ripped down?

OP posts:
difficultpickle · 06/05/2012 18:37

Yes. I don't trust him at all. I think there has to be a connection we haven't realised because if not it would be rather predictable.

diddl · 06/05/2012 18:44

Well if Brody is to be elected, maybe he can do more "damage" from there, so decides to wait & see if he is elected?

Still don´t get his "motivation" though-nor that of Walker.

revolutionconfirmed · 06/05/2012 18:47

I saw it a few weeks ago but will watch it again tonight. I loved the ending and I'm waiting anxiously for a second season to see where it will go from here.

ImperialBlether · 06/05/2012 19:18

Don't say another word, revolutionconfirmed!

Except: where did you see it?

OP posts:
difficultpickle · 06/05/2012 21:02

Day 1 what that's supposed to mean?

difficultpickle · 06/05/2012 21:02

OMG a suicide video.

difficultpickle · 06/05/2012 21:04

So its all back to Issa.

difficultpickle · 06/05/2012 21:06

Anyone else watching or are you all hiding behind the sofa?!

difficultpickle · 06/05/2012 21:08

I really don't know about Saul. Still can't work out if he is good or bad.

difficultpickle · 06/05/2012 21:12

Another OMG. What is Walker going to do with bingo woman?

ledkr · 06/05/2012 21:55
