Did anyone else watch Smash on Saturday night?

I loved it! I thought Debra Messing would be too 'Grace' like, but she wasnt.

I recorded it and desperate to find time to watch it! Have been excited about this for a while!

RedHotPokers · 24/04/2012 14:27

Just watched it and absolutely LOVED it!

FrillyMilly · 24/04/2012 18:05

Watched it today. Love it!!!

RustyKuntz · 24/04/2012 18:15

Watched it today. Liked what I saw. It's original,it's grown-up, there's a lot of scope for the characters and story line.

I worried how Glee-like it would be (am a Gleek) but it's so different.

Above all else...JACK DAVENPORT.... I would

Mrsjay · 24/04/2012 19:56

Is it glee for grown ups ? I do love glee but it looks like glee for grown ups Its on anytime i might watch it , I do love a jazz hand Grin

RustyKuntz · 24/04/2012 20:37

NO, not Glee for grown-ups at all. Something entirely new, but with musicals and the odd bit of singing.

The first episode had a few bursts of song and then it was only at the end that there was a full song and it was in with the story, non-cheesy and fitted with the feel of it all.

I love Glee so much but it is pretty cringeworthy at times. Smash - not so much. Oh and did I mention...JACK DAVENPORT

Mrsjay · 24/04/2012 20:45

I will give it a go , Glee is annoying me atm its just pants ,

FrillyMilly · 24/04/2012 20:55

It wasn't just 'let's sing a song to solve our problems' like glee. The singing fit really well in to the show and didn't seem cheesy at all. They were singing for a reason eg an audition. I used to love Glee but I think it's lost it's way a bit.

RustyKuntz · 24/04/2012 22:19

I am desperately trying to hold on to Glee, I agree it is getting a bit lost.

I don't think they should do another series after the current cast 'graduate'. There's not much they can do with the story now - how many teacher affairs, teen pregnancy, bullying, gay story lines can they rehash?

Smash, however, so much scope

Mrsjay · 24/04/2012 22:23

I know its all about the music (glee) but it seems they just want to shove a recent song in the story isnt there anymore , and not enough Kurt n Burt for my liking I love kurts dad Grin

slalomsuki · 25/04/2012 20:13

Watching it just now. So far so good.

Cloudbase · 25/04/2012 22:24

Just watched the repeat tonight - it was excellent and I am hooked! And always good to see Anjelica in action...

doublechocchip · 27/04/2012 23:07

It was amazing, can't wait for tomorrows episode, haven't looked forward to a programme this much for ages!

RustyKuntz · 28/04/2012 00:00

I love that Jack Davenport is a bastard.

mmmm.

(I'm on a perv-fest this evening) [blush

icapturethecastle · 28/04/2012 00:03

It was great - can't wait for more.

EthelredOnAGoodDay · 28/04/2012 00:09

Glad to have found this thread! Just watched it tonight and really enjoyed it! Thinks it's going to be great! Jack davenport was v hot and also liked the other English guy, who I think was in spooks. Despite being a big theatre/musicals/jazz hander, have never really watched glee, so hoping this will fill that spot!!! GrinGrin

lemonpoppyseed · 28/04/2012 00:58

I'm in Canada; we're about eight e

lemonpoppyseed · 28/04/2012 01:01

Aaargh! On phone, finger slipped...

As I was saying, we're about eight episodes in, and it really does keep getting better. I like the way the songs are usually in context, although there was an interesting Bollywood number this week that was a bit out there in left field. Great show!

KeepOrfThemCarbs · 28/04/2012 01:08

I absolutely loved this. It is not my normal cup of tea (I loathe Glee) but I thought it was really well done. Debra Messing, jack Davenport and the dark haired auditonee (and the cute boyfriend) were fantastic, and Angelica Huston was so classy. Really looking forward to watching the rest.

foxinsocks · 28/04/2012 14:31

I loved it too. LOVED it

foxinsocks · 28/04/2012 14:33

I record it and watch the Bridge. Think it was on Anytime. Wish they would put whole series on there.

Get0rfMoiLand · 28/04/2012 15:01

DD watched it this morning and also loves it.

It has been ages since I was so impressed by a pilot episode of anything.

foxinsocks · 28/04/2012 15:45

Yes my dd loved it too. I quite enjoy stuff we can watch together.

slalomsuki · 06/05/2012 17:14

Just watching episode 2 on sky+ and am really enjoying it. Just right for a Sunday bank holiday after afternoon.

CaurnieBred · 08/07/2012 22:57

Anyone still watching and loving this? I am. I especially loved the Bollywood scene in the last episode.
