Anyone else finding their scenes really difficult to watch?

I was just about to start the same thread.

Wonderfully played but very upsetting to watch I agree. I wonder the thinking behind making Ashley so horrid?

I don't know and it's come out of the blue really, but he is playing it very well.

Hope it all turns out ok in the end though, not sure if the Sandy character is being written out.

He started getting nasty during the laurel / marlon stuff (don't blame him tbf) but now you'd think he was some sort of bad lad not a vicar!

Just watched tonight, it was awful.

V V hard to watch. I'm guessing that the reason they've chosen Ashley for this story is to show that elder abuse can happen in families where you wouldn't expect it to. That it's something that affects people from all backgrounds, class etc.
I'm really glad they're doing this though. Like child abuse it happens to people who aren't in a position to complain and there's not a lot of awareness of it around.

I had to switch over a few nights ago. It's so disturbing to think that people actually do this to elderly, vulnerable people. It scares the life out of me that this sort of thing happens more often than most realise. I know its going off the point slightly but it makes me wonder ...Why do people work in care homes etc if they could treat the elderly like this... !

amothersplaceisinthewrong · 20/04/2012 19:54

I think it is actually a good thing this is being highlighted, I suspect it is far more common than we think and will become more so as the number of elderly rises. It must be very very hard to look after an elderly person in your own home 24/7 - I know I could not do it.
