I went to the BBC Official convention last weekend and have some photos/video to share with fellow whovians but you all seem to have vanished.

I was there too, on Sunday! Which day were you there?

Ripeberry · 28/03/2012 23:19

Hi, went in on the Saturday I was an Ood. Did you visit the Tardis set as well?
That was brilliant. I thought they would not let us take photos at first, then on the coach they said we could, then when we got to the outside of the set they said we could TOUCH IT. Real squeee moment! Grin

We were Ood too! No, we didn't do the Tardis set, we decided it would take too much time out of the day. We went to all three panel sessions, the costumes room, the special effects demo and a lot of the meet the monsters and prosthetics demos in the foyer.

Ripeberry · 29/03/2012 07:57

I did the Tardis visit on a seperate day as I have relatives in Cardiff and I camped on their living room floor. It was worth it Grin

Sounds brilliant. Anyone have any thoughts on the new companion? Or the departure of Amy Pond?

Idontknowhowtohelpher · 29/03/2012 10:22

Does the new companion look a bit too pretty? - and please don't let there be any more unrequited lurve stories. (Or her turning out to be the Doctor's grandmother... ) She doesn't join until the Christmas episode so we will see a bit more of Amy and Rory. I didn't like Rory at first but now I think I will miss him when he goes.

Have you seen the preview trailer? www.bbc.co.uk/doctorwho/dw/news/bulletin_120326_01/First_Preview_of_the_New_Series

noeyedear · 29/03/2012 10:30

i quite like the look of her. Won't any unrequited lurve stories be swiftly ended now by " Meet my wife- She's a trained assassin"? I'll miss the ponds. Thought Amy was a bit wooden in season 5 but was much better in S6

Idontknowhowtohelpher · 29/03/2012 10:46

LOL - I like " Meet my wife- She's a trained assassin".

The trailer for the next series looks like it might be fun and not too meaningful - which suits me!

RustyBear · 29/03/2012 10:52

We saw the trailer at the convention, before it went public. There were a couple of hints from Steven Moffat about the Ponds' exit, but mostly it was 'I'm not telling you!'

The prostehetics and costume bits were very good - there was a guy there called Rory (forgotten his last name) who has replaced Paul Kasey as main monster man now that Paul has 'got a proper job' who was very entertaining about life inside a suit - when you're a Slitheen, you can't go for a pee, but it doesn't matter, because you sweat out every drop you drink anyway...

Abcinthia · 29/03/2012 11:12

Oh I'm jealous of everyone who went to the convention Envy

I'm looking forward to the new series. Though I'm going to be sad to see Rory go. I have a bit of a crush on him Blush

EdithWeston · 29/03/2012 11:14

Rory improved enormously, didn't he?

He went from "what on earth does Amy see in him?" to "Wow!"

HJisgoingtogoBOOM · 29/03/2012 11:58

Paul Casey has left Shock

RustyBear · 29/03/2012 12:56

Well, he might be back, HJ, apparently his 'proper job' is something to do with the Olympics, so presumably it'll be over by September...

SoupDragon · 29/03/2012 13:01

Idontknowhowtohelpher · 29/03/2012 13:09

According to the Doctor Who website there are six episodes this year including a Christmas Special which is when Jenna will make her first Doctor Who appearance, and a further eight episodes next year, leading up to the 50th Anniversary of Doctor Who. It doesn't give any starting date for the series to be shown. Is there an Easter special this year?

Snapespeare · 29/03/2012 13:49

very Envy of those that made it to Cardiff but Shock at ticket prices and cannot with all will in world justify that at the mo.

desperate for new series. d e s p e r a t e! no date as yet, so will have to content self with box sets

idontknowhow I really want new companion to be Susan!

Idontknowhowtohelpher · 29/03/2012 13:56

Oh yes, Susan would be good! My husband wants a reincarnation of Leela...

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 29/03/2012 14:00

i'm delighted it's jenna thingy getting the job, she's the only bright spark in Titanic, imo. (have seen three episodes, btw... no it doesn't get any better.)

noeyedear · 29/03/2012 14:48

I think she's the Doctor and River's daughter ( but now I've said it, she won't be!) It would be a nice symmetry that the Doctor started his TV career travelling with his granddaughter, and 50 years later, travels with his daughter. I don't think Susan would mean anything to younger viewers, and they are the ones who make the money (looks around at DS's million Doctor Who toys, many of which are only seen in one episode!)
