I love stuff like this, and recently really enjoyed Pan Am. I love the glamour of that era and the light hearted take on the ishoos.

I have heard that it is not strictly factually sympathetic to the era and a bit of a 'rose tinted view' but i dont mind about that

I got loads of amazon vouchers for my birthday and fancy buying the box set. £35 for series 1-4.

Shall i do it? I could always resell it on amazon/ebay if i am not that bothered, but i think i might like it. I wish i had watched it at the time.

Yes!
Mad men is great. Buy it!

valiumredhead · 09/03/2012 09:01

Yes, if you like slow burners where all the story lines are subtle and 'nothing much happens' according to my dh Grin

I LOVE it and am eagerly awaiting the new series Grin

BrigitBigKnickers · 09/03/2012 09:10

Hmmm- I found it very slow and gave up a few episodes into the second series- it was a bit too "slow burning" for me.

Davros · 09/03/2012 09:12

You will probably like it from what you say in your OP. We suffered the first series, having been quite excited about it, and thought it was over long, tedious, stylish but boring. We are in the minority though I do realise.

It's a lot better than pan am

Mad Men is a million gazillion times better than Pan Am. If you like Pan Am you will love Mad Men.

Pagwatch · 09/03/2012 09:25

It's gorgeous to look at and really well done. It doesn't have fantastic story lines but it doesn't need them. It just sort of envelops you...

It's a slow trip
Beautifully subtle
Relax and enjoy the sets the clothes the gorgeous chaps and gals
Then every now and again comes a wham moment and you think 'did that just happen?'
I watched it alone with a stiff gin...my guilty pleasure.
Can't wait till March 27th when it's back on TV

lovelychops · 09/03/2012 20:34

It's brilliant. Super stylish. Do it!

pigsinmud · 10/03/2012 08:56

Op - not sure if the offer is still on, but a couple of days ago i bought mad men series 1-3 for £15.99 at Play.com. Haven't started watching it yet.

mixedmamameansbusiness · 10/03/2012 08:56

A friend has recently lent me series 1-2 and I am completely hooked. The style is just incredible and all the little nods to the period whether completely accurate or not.

The protaganist is hot, noteworthy is a scene in series one, where he does press ups topless in stripey blue PJs - never have stripey blue PJs been so sexy.

Joan Holloway's style just amazes me everytime she walks into a scene.

mixedmamameansbusiness · 10/03/2012 08:57

DH also said the same "nothing happens". I ignore him.

MarthasHarbour · 10/03/2012 14:12

Yay, thanks to the MN jury i shall purchase it forthwith (will check out that deal schilke)

thanks! Grin
