I really like Clare Foy. Its supposed to be the new Our Friends in the North. I doubt it can top that though.

I'm watching! What do you think, so far?

frillyflower · 08/03/2012 21:39

The script is awful. Have had to stop watching.

Kellamity · 08/03/2012 21:40

Got bored have now turned over.

QuaaludesAndRedWine · 08/03/2012 22:01

Turned it on at the end, looked like it might have been ok, but after reading this, maybe not.

Slartybartfast · 08/03/2012 22:16

oh, i think it was ok, what else has she been in. bit obvious she was gagging for it, free love and all that.

Horsemad · 08/03/2012 23:27

I enjoyed it but would the word 'shag' have been used in 1965??

Looking forward to episode 2!

TheFarSide · 08/03/2012 23:30

It's a bit slow but I enjoyed looking at the retro decor - reminds me of my childhood.

valiumredhead · 09/03/2012 08:59

I quite liked it BUT the art teacher said "Go and work it off in the gym" - did people go to the gym in 1965? Confused and 'shag' too -really?

I don't like Clare Foy and she's in everything atm - she has the same blank facial expression wether she is masturbating in 1965 or running through the streets of Israel

Love the decor though Grin

ppeatfruit · 09/03/2012 13:39

I quite liked it too, it it's a bit didactic IMO. I do remember parties like that Grinvalium yes we had gyms in schools in 1965/6 But not ones on the street that EVERYONE went to with cafes and pools and carpet etc. Just sweaty body builder type blokes IYSWIM. i'm trying to remember if we said shag (I was a bit young to say it but I think it's a VERY old expression)!

IKWYM about Ms. Foy's expression she's another like Romola Garai who happens to be flavour of the month with the producers. I love Juliet Stevenson and I didn't 'get' them turning up at a very clean house with yellow tape round a room that had their 60s wall paper cleanly underneath another layer.

threestepsforward · 09/03/2012 13:50

Was a bit slow but I will give it a second chance next week - I think it might get better. I thought Hmmabout the 'gym' comment too!

Of course, she was in that Israel drama. I knew I recognised her rather bland face!

alemci · 09/03/2012 13:54

it was ok but a bit cliched I feel.

Clawdy · 09/03/2012 20:02

Not got the sixties feel for me,and too clunking when they try to get it right. will watch next week though! Not being cattyWinkbut there is no way Juliet Stevenson could have looked like that when she was young!

ppeatfruit · 10/03/2012 09:11

The party was the only time I thought it had the right 60's 'feel' clawdy and as you said Ms. Foy and Ms. Stevenson had no resemblance at all; also J.S. can act !

Slartybartfast · 17/03/2012 17:50

was gonna catch up with the 2nd episode on iplayer today

was it worth it?

bringbacksideburns · 21/03/2012 11:05

I'm enjoying it. Jack reminds me looks wise of Miles in that programme i watched years ago with Egg and the lawyers. (Can't remember name.)

I'm a bit confused as to what year it is supposed to be to start off with. I presume it must be the eighties as they keep saying 'twenty years ago' and Juliet S looks young.

Blink and you'll miss Julian Barrett as the Art teacher.

I am having fun looking at the errors. A student would not have taken a colour photo in 1965, it would have been black and white!

aloiseb · 23/03/2012 06:02

I think Clare Foy can act - I've just being watching her as Persie in Upstairs Downstairs and it's quite difficult to see that it's the same person.

However, I don't like White Heat and won't be watching any more. I'm glad I was too young to remember 1965, if that's what it was like (Andy Pandy, anyone?)

diddl · 23/03/2012 07:50

bringback-This Life.

valiumredhead · 23/03/2012 09:14

This life is being shown on Sony channel - it's still fab!

I'm still enjoying White Heat, it's not gripping but it's good Thursday night viewing.
