Maybe this thread will quickly die a death, but I was wondering if anyone watched this? Once you, you know, got past all the ultra-violent comic book violence and sex....It was really, really good! All fighting and honour and spirits that won't be broken and saying things like "by Jupiter's cock!" Hahaha! John Hannah was excellent in it! Shame his character was brutally killed in a fit of righteous justice last season....

So sad about the original Spartacus actor Andy Whitfield dying before this new season started and they'd already replaced him because he had to pull out anyway. But still. Feel kind of bad for the new actor as Andy was so popular.

Maybe I'll be chatting to myself in this thread ;) But very much looking forward to series three!

Lucretia was shown to be still alive in the last scene of B+S, she was moving her hand towards Batiatus.

Someone must have helped her/ stitched her wound etc in the aftermath of the massacre, Onimaius (Doctore) or Ashur I'd wager.
I suppose what annoyed me about the brothel scene was that the women were shown being sexually brutalised but the men weren't, which was exactly the same as in Gods of the arena, where a female slave (best friend of Naevia) was shown being raped by two men at the same time in fairly graphic detail, but the male slave who was chosen for sex by a Roman man wasn't shown at all after he was lead away - it's a bit cowardly not to show male on male rape, like that's the most terrible thing that could happen, despite the uber-violence and gore, and people couldn't cope with it, IFSWIM?

oooh we luuurve Spartacus, not sure it will match up to the first series, particularly as Andy Whitfield is gone :(

is Gods of the Arena worth watching?

Ah, so she was alive. Thanks. I think she might regain her marbles.

I know what you mean. I don't find rape of women titillating but some programme-makers do in the way that they find male-on-male rape much more shocking and serious and would never show it as entertainment. There's a good discussion of it on Feminism atm.

It's just that I find the portrayal of violence titillating - and just as removed from the reality of the real thing - too so can't bring myself to condemn one and not the other.
