First of the new series. I am not watching purely cos our hard disk recorder is broken and we expected to be asleep by now but ds had other plans ... someone let me know if something important happens! And if anyone is recording to DVD/hard disk and would do me a copy I would be super-grateful.

He (laurie) is a DR that diagnoses really complicated cases

The girl DR fancies him - he does/doesn't fancy her

He is addicted to his painkillers for his leg (which should have been amputated)

Other two DR vie for prestige/power

Hugh Laurie is the irascible Dr Greg House, head of Diagnostic Medicine which means they give him all the really difficult cases to solve - it's like the A Team, if no-one else can help you, and if you can find him, maybe you can call Dr. Greg. House.

He is ably assisted by his three junior docs and has had a an on-off thing with the female one. (Plus I reckon a bit of chemistry with the head of the hospital). He is a drug addict after he suffered a sort of stroke in one leg, I can't remember the details about this but it was shown in flashback in the last episode of the first series, where his ex-gf reappeared with her new husband. She is the only person he has ever let into his heart and he has never recovered.

Also, Robert Sean Leonard is in it, out of Dead Poets Society. He is House's best mate, and (bizarrely) rarely has scenes with anyone other than Hugh Laurie. He is an oncologist.

Oh yes, and he just won a Golden Globe. The BBC refused to admit this when listing British achievements at the awards this year on the grounds "he was on the telly and not in film" (actually because he ignored them on the red carpet!)

wow thanks ladies. is nonsense but am enjoying it if rather perturbed at hugh lawrie's accent, and the fact that i keep expecting him to say 'darling' in a blackadder way.

I fell asleep and missed the last fifteen minutes. Can anyone tell me if the death row guy survived his illness, and did they tell the girl with the terminal illness what was wrong?

You get used to the accent, I now find it really strange to hear him doing nappy ads in a really upbeat voice

It was a tiny wee cancer which causes adrenaline surges - which proably also created the anger and strength to do the murders. Once it was removed he was fine. The black docotr was going to testify at his appeal that the cancer was a contributory cancer.

The female doctor had to tell the girl she had terminal cancer.

Hasn't Billy" from Neighbours come a long way!

I never watched Neighbours, but i knew i'd seen that guys face somewhere befre - now i know.
On a different note, by Dh was watching Hugh Laurie in a Blackadder epsiode at the weekend! He's come a long way too
