I hope the telly can do it justice, it is the most fabulous book.

Abcinthia · 16/01/2012 11:05

I cannot wait to watch it. I love the book and I hope the BBC are able to capture it well.

sailorsgal · 16/01/2012 14:17

Yes next Sunday after "call the midwife". Look good.

I hated that book with a passion. Faulks can't write from a woman's POV for toffee but didn't let it stop him.

Maybe the person adapting it might be able to - who knows, she might even be a woman.

They've said they had to cut loads out which would be good if they culled the whole ridiculous '70s plot line.

Abcinthia · 16/01/2012 15:17

I must say, I hope they cut the 70s plot line as well limitedperiodonly

I really enjoyed Birdsong apart from the 70s plot line - it nearly destroyed the whole book for me.

That is what they have done apparently, it is just the pre-war and during war threads. I'm a bit dubious about whether it will live up to the book.
