I am enjoying this and find the main character very engaging. Anyone else watching

Yes - really enjoying it too. Great acting - will be interesting to see how it pans out. Trying to work out what may have happened!

nicknamealreadyinuse · 05/01/2012 23:41

Me too. The friend with the big hair definitely did it I reckon. No idea what's going to happen tomorrow npbut I can't wait. The main actor bloke is so good. I hope he gets back with garden centre girl but fear there will be a dark ending.

Im loving this too. Daniel Mays is brilliant in it.

MsTimTam · 06/01/2012 09:13

Watching this as well, great acting and really interesting/thought provoking story. I reckon big hair bloke did it as well...

nicknamealreadyinuse · 06/01/2012 10:28

I wonder, is it too obvious about big hair bloke though?

I am really enjoying this ,brilliant acting and script. Missed a bit at the very start but was wondering at one point if it was his sister as he would have been protecting her and she was trying to get him to withdraw his statement that he did not do it. Changed my thinking as it unfolded though. Looking forward to the conclusion tonight.

TheFoosa · 06/01/2012 21:12

Remain unconvinced about Anna Friel though

TartyMcFarty · 06/01/2012 22:06

Good drama, terrible ending! Just can't believe those two as a couple.

adinaabfab · 06/01/2012 22:24

Ahh I loved the ending, so sweet. [smile}] DH on the other hand thought Eddie had comiited suicide before he found out he was free. Hmm

lovbeingdad · 06/01/2012 22:27

disappointing.....

PansPeople · 07/01/2012 12:36

Seen 2/3 so far. Acting and direction is excellent.

Realistic? A pretty good attempt to look at a highly specialised area of work for probation officers, though there were numerous occassions where in RL he would have been recalled in seconds. ( about 4 criminal damages, a Section 39 assault, going to POs home, being in exclusion zone - all within weeks of release).

Anna's motivational interviewing skills need polishing up.Grin

PansPeople · 07/01/2012 13:53

Oh weak. Oh well.

Davros · 07/01/2012 15:08

I thought the Daniel Mays character was utterly revolting with no redeeming features and the Anna Friel character was an absolute twat. But I still enjoyed it! I thought I was being clever and original in thinking that big hair bloke did it but clearly not! Kept us going for 3 nights.

PansPeople · 07/01/2012 15:31

No, he was an ugly, manipulative, selfish twat, and there was no ryhme or reason offered asd to why the PO would find him attractive. Other than to add a ridiculously absurd angle to the story, which could have, if written and researched better, done v. well without it.
POs do not behave like this.

adinaabfab · 07/01/2012 17:04

I thought he was lovley.

fifitot · 07/01/2012 18:01

Thought it a bit silly. I worked as a Po for a number of years and though they tried for some realism they got alot of stuff wrong. She was rubbish. The actor who played the offender was really good. Friel v unconvincing I thought.

Apparently they took professional advice on the content and it showed to a point but tbh they got alot of stuff wrong too. Still watched it though!

unknownrebelbang · 07/01/2012 22:07

I was screeching at the TV at times (had the boys telling me it's only a programme, muuuumm).

Some of it was very realistic. The offender was very true to life, but yes he would have been recalled, and no probation officer I know behaves like that.

Thought the ending fizzled out myself.

One of the NAPO gen secs was the advisor on this apparently.

TheFarSide · 08/01/2012 11:27

Started well but a totally unbelievable ending!!! WTF? Professional woman gives up career for and falls in love with an impulsive man-child?

AmberLeaf · 08/01/2012 22:20

He obviously stopped maturing at the age of 19 when he went inside, so yes he behaved like a teenager!

I wasnt expecting it to be her dad that did it, also when her mum turned and said 'I wanted to be on my own' when she was in georgias bedroom she looked and sounded really scary! she looked like she hated the dad which made me think did she know all along it was him that did it?

I dont believe a PO would be so unprofessional, but then there have been cases where prison officers have fallen for inmates so you never know.

AmberLeaf · 08/01/2012 22:21

I mean he stopped maturing in the way of social relationships etc. as he didnt have any while in prison,.

adinaabfab · 08/01/2012 22:30

People do lots of crazy things for love. I also thing he stopped at 19. I don't think it was unrealsistic from the point of view, you can't help who you fall for. he didn't do it, of course he was angry and spontanous, he just wanted a life. I loved it and thought he was really sweet.
