Great Expectations - suitable for an eight year old?

I have recorded the recent Great Expectations TV series but haven't watched any of it yet. My eight year old dd has asked to watch it after seeing one of the trailers.

Can anyone who has watched it let me know whether it's suitable for an eight year old to watch? (She's reasonably robust, doesn't scare easily)

It is quite violent and bloody in parts although not overly so, but not sure an 8yr old would really get it iyswim. dd(10) watched it and found it hard to follow.

My 8 year old loved it.

I think most 8 year olds would flag a bit during the second episode,even if they managed the first part.
