I've got such a dilemma, it clashes with Big Brother. How shallow am I?

I suppose I could plug in the video...

i live less than 3 miles from the Langley estate that these children are from, my DH grew up on this estate and his family still live there now.

I found it really upsetting to watch, how could the children have been put in care for so long?
especially Daniel 10 years

It was a very sad programme which has clearly affected the childrens lives through to adulthood.

I missed it but read about it, were the allegations false?

Report
mazzystar · 12/01/2006 00:11

absolutely horrific and devastating.

yes, the allegations were false.

felt so sad for the family whose children were kept in care on the basis that they were poor and apparently not much else.

it strikes me that Daniel was left to wallow in care as a 'punishment' for the social workers' cocking up. These children and whole families are still being victimised by the system because they are not educated enough to know how to go about fighting effectively for themselves. An public apology? These children deserve financial compensation for having their innocence and childhood stolen from them. It was heartbreaking to watch the video of little Caroline sobbing for 17 minutes for her brother to have a damn SW telling her if she only just stopped crying and listened then they would make her go home. Lying cow.

kiskidee I agree - it so looks like they kept him in care because they didn't want to back down on having at least one reason for not returning him to his home.

And how vile that they could get away with keeping him there because his parents had debts. On that basis, half the children in the country should be in care.

it was awful. sister said if one of the children she had to interview said they were scared of ghosts she wouldnt bat an eyelid, its a normal childhood fear.

what was this originally about? when was it?

It was about the Rochdale children who were taken from their homes at the height of the Satanic abuse hysteria. It was quite shocking - the SW's were simply determined that satanic abuse was taking place and just refused to listen to the children. The way they questioned them as well, was more of an interrogation than an interview. And the kids were deeply affected by it - the SW's abused them more than the parents they were accusing.

Probably the most horrendous programme I have evr watched, all of those children were physically examined without their parents present, IMO that is abuse, and how the Social workers are still in their jobs is beyond me, totally horrifying

I got really upset when they were interviewing or rather trying to interview a little girl and she just sobbed and cryed contiunally for her brother David. The 'interview' went on for about 15 minutes.

I just kept thinking of my youngest who adores his big brother and what if he was screaming for DS1 and bascially being ignored.

Afraid I couldn't bring myslef to watch all of the programme.

And they are still working in child 'protection'! Child abuse more like.

Thought there had been abuse, just not "Satanic". Didn't see the programme. An ex knew one of the sw's involved (professionally) and that was what he was told. Did these cases go to court?

Report
mykidsmum · 12/01/2006 19:06

Yes and it was all thrown out, no evidence at all, not sure how it even got that far. One family weren't allowed their children back as they were seen as unfit parents, unfortunately it seems they were being punished for being poor and not particularly bright.

Face saving operation, at the cost of that particular families happines IMO

Report
Tinker · 12/01/2006 19:09

It was the Satanic element which caused the case to be thrown out, allegedly.

But there was No evidence of sexual abuse, you should have seen the interviews which were interprated as indicators, it all stemmed from alittle boy having nightmares about ghosts and the social workers saying the ghosts represented abusers. Then bullying the other children into saying they dreamt about ghosts, had been visited by ghosts too, none of the children knew what they were on about. Anyway they asked this little boy if he played games with the ghosts and he said he played tig, when asked where tigged he twice replied tummy, in court this was presented as him saying penis, even though the videos showed otherwise.

Report
mykidsmum · 12/01/2006 19:17

Honestly the interviews were so farcical, that if it wasn't so heartbreaking it would be funny.
