he's a knob

Nesbo · 02/12/2011 19:21

Um...you do know that the revenues from his programme contribute hugely towards the BBC and that without him you would either pay more or get less for your licence fee? Of course you do.

WhoIsThatMaskedWoman · 02/12/2011 19:27

I agree with Nesbo, I'm pretty sure Top Gear is a substantial net earner for the BBC, that's why they get to have such phenomenal production values on their films. Maybe it'll make him more tolerable if you think of all the lovely BBC4 goodies he's enabling the Corporation to pay for?

LydiaWickham · 02/12/2011 19:35

Top Gear makes a massive profit. Very few BBC programmes do. He really is rather a linch pin of the show and I can't think of anyone who could replace him and keep the same 'feel' to it (whereas the other two, while fitting very well, would be far easier to replace).

And a lot of people watch his shows, read his articles and buy his books. I have to accept, while I don't agree with him on a lot of his views, and while his views/comments are at odds with mainstream media, a large percentage of the population obviously do agree with him, and the BBC isn't just supposed to serve the people who think like us.

I cant believe people took his remarks seriously. The unions wanted to take him to court Xmas Grin

orienteerer · 02/12/2011 20:57

It was a jokeXmas Grin.

Effjay · 02/12/2011 20:58

He's an utter twat. Top Gear would still be successful without him; that's not a good reason to keep him. How come Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand got sacked and he didn't?

Sparklingbrook · 02/12/2011 21:00

I think this was all discussed on another thread, in depth yesterday.

microcow · 02/12/2011 21:04

we have to put up with him as apparently he makes money for the bbc with his fantastic motoring show.

i don't know why people like him so much, it's totally beyond me, but then again i think he's a middle class twat who probably appeals to other middle class twats

I think everyone who complained needs to be shot, they obviously have no sense of humour at all.

I mean it pretty much went like this..

"mr clarkson what do you think of the strikes?"

"I think they are great, I've never seen the roads of London so empty, everyone is staying at home they should do it more often, but this is the BBC so we have to have impartiality so I think they should all be shot, complaining about nothing with their pensions paid for by the tax payer"

it was a joke for gods sake grow up you people, I watch Top Gear all the time, he's an idiot, it's a joke, he is the bumbling idiot thats how he is thats why he's entertaining.
