The Killing s1 vs American The Killing

I didn't get to see the first series of the killing, but I am getting it for Christmas.

I know this because when it arrived DH asked if he had got the wrong thing because it seemed American and not Danish!

He had accidentally bought the American version, and has given it to me now. But, he thinks we shouldn't watch it until after I have watched the proper version which he had now ordered for me for Christmas.

Would watching the American version now ruin the original, it will I get away with it? I know it's meant to be disappointing in comparison, but it's sitting there taunting me..

I watched about 5 episodes of the US version before starting on the Danish one.
The episodes seemed similar in length and storyline (Danish one slightly more brutal with the details) up until a certain point and then the US one went downhill whereas the Danish one improved. I watched both all the way through out of curiosity but you may find it a bit boring/repetitive.

If you watch Danish first - you prob won't bother with US at all.

Watch a couple of the US....go on...see if you get hooked.
