Chiles and Bleakley leaving Daybreak

BBC article here.

They never did seem right in the morning slot, so I see this as welcome.

I wonder what they will do next, and what will happen at Daybreak?

They should never have ditched GMTV! I say leave Kate and the other bloke doing it.

Animation · 25/11/2011 21:39

I didn't know you could just sack people like that.

Animation · 25/11/2011 21:42

Oh - just read the article - looks like they've got alternative good deals.

meditrina · 25/11/2011 21:56

TV programmes get cancelled from under people the whole time; there will be well known contractual procedures for it.

I thought the other work they did went on in parallel to Daybreak anyhow? That's why I was wondering if there would be a new show for them as a twosome.

And I much preferred GMTV, and would like to see the new morning show back to something like that.

I think the main problem was changing the format from GMTV to Daybreak. Going from a programme which was almost from the lounge into your own home, into a silly set of giggling presenters talking about silly photos of animals, with way too much sport, in an unsuitable studio. It was never going to work. I don't think Christine or Adrian are actually to blame for those silly decisions

Oh good, I think Christine looks like she has swallowed a shark, her new teeth are horrible.

I think it sounds like it was all wrong, Chiles shouldn't have left in a hissy fit with the bbc over them giving the Friday One Show to Evans.
It's not good to leave in a sulk, there's always the danger of making bad decisions.
Bleakly clearly was very reluctant to go, she took forever to sign her contract it seemed. Another bad sign, she was probably very happy but lacked the confidence in herself without Chiles maybe?
Apparently they took a good bit of the BBC team with them. Dangerous strategy, the bbc and ITV can be very different places with hugely different freedoms for production teams. Another dubious decision.
I actually do blame Chiles for this one. For being too grand to be flexible, for selling out for a ridiculous pile of dosh (honestly WHO is worth that kind of money?) and for putting what looked like loads of pressure on CB to leave.
It's pure hubris imo, and that comes before a fall. Harsh but fair, no one is above falling. Also he had such a sweet deal at the bbc - the Apprentice show, the one show, plenty of sport, as a place it was totally him. Mad to go. Ego got way to big and the greed followed along after that. Shame.

I'm not too fussed about the politics of it all tbh, just really glad to see the back of the pair of them, would like to see a return of Penny Smith etc with Dan Lobb an added bit of eye candy in the morning Wink
