What on earth was it trying to prove? The bloody Cambridge diet came up as number one, even though they kept saying things like 'it's not recommended as a healthy diet' and 'you shouldn't just go for quick-fix rememdies', then they ranked them on just that!

Also, I missed the first 5 mins but am not aware of them saying at any other time how long the women were on each diet for - 2 weeks? 3 weeks? anyone know?

If i remember they were all on the diet for 3 weeks, the only one that wasn't on it for more than a week was the one on the cabbage soup diet as its not recommend for any longer.

I have actually bought the scarsdale diet book, going to have a look into that, it looked quite good.

I saw it - what a pointless lightweight programme. I thought it was going to be a thorough critique of the various diets. The leaderboard at the end was just based on weight loss and nothing to do with the best diet as such.

Piffle · 05/01/2006 11:21

that lady who did the GI diet
FFS a bowl of broccoli
She did not try at all!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

compo · 05/01/2006 11:22

I saw it too. They tried to cover too much in too short a programme, so by the end i couldn't remember which diet was which!

Radley · 05/01/2006 11:22

what amazed me was that they didn't include, 3 of what I think are the most popular and successful (compared by various friends who have used them).

Where were,

Slimming World
Weightwatchers
Rosemary Conley

very true Radley. I guess because tose are long term diets and they were after qucik fixes to get results for the show. Also Lorraine Kelly said she'd been on loads of diets but she didn't say what worked for her - ie healthy eating and loads of exercise, she runs marathons now, why couldn't they have mentioned exercise ffs!!

Radley · 05/01/2006 11:25

She metioned exercise very very briefly at the end, she said that the only way to lose weight was

'eat less and exercise more'

Well I never knew that.

Straightforward · 05/01/2006 11:29

And why did they make the poor women wear those awful grey towelling robes so they all looked pale and lumpy?!

Know what you mean piffle - GI woman just wasn't trying - she moaned on and the broccoli they showed her eating looked like it had been cooked to death!

Can't remember which lady it was but she said I stuck ti it really rigidly I'm disappointed with the weight loss. Then added - it must have been all the wine! Nuff said.

TwoIfBySea · 05/01/2006 20:59

There was a much better show on BBC1 a couple of years ago where they looked at only 3 diets: Weight Watchers, The Atkins and Rosemary Conley with a lot more people, men and women.

I thought this was going to be like that, how wrong I was, I stopped watching after 1/2 hour. Load of rubbish!

Bozza · 05/01/2006 21:04

I quite enjoyed the programme although I admit it was a load of rubbish.
