I was reading the other thread on Gareth on his wonderful military wives choir, and I thought " how I'd like him to sit on my sofa what a wonderful man he is". How perceptive, generous and intuitive he is, and so genuinely passionate about music and its positive effect on people. I think for the work alone that he has done with military wives - giving them a "voice" - he should be honoured. There has been so much attention (and deservedly so) for the military and their work, that the wives and families have not had nearly enough recognition for the support they give.
And before that, lovely Gareth set up choirs with a quite tough boys school, and then in a town in Hertfordshire that was really run down and gave such a boost to the people there. I watched that series and was blubbing so touched when Gareth decided to stay on and be choirmaster there for a second year, when the TV cameras had left.
So I think Gareth should be honoured for his services to music, (and for being lovely) - does anyone agree?
