Yes. The police investigated his version of events (eg checking the location of the hammer) to be sure he wasn't just trying to exonerate a guilty accomplice and must have been satisfied enough to pass on a new dossier. Fiz will still have to appeal, and until she is cleared at appeal is still technically a convicted murderer.

I didn't understand that. Wouldn't it have been more sensible for there to be a retrial? Or, at the very least, for the judge to suspend sentencing until more information had come from the police

The new evidence wasn't ready at the conclusion of the original trial, and there was nothing wrong with the trial itself which had correctly heard the available evidence. A retrial would be secured via an appeal. I doubt it will need to come to that.

Didn't Fizz mumble something last night about "them" not bothering about taking her case any further?

She is really getting on my nerves with that weird vacant face she adopts when trying to convey a range of emotions, she wasn't that bad before was she?
