I'm watching, and crying a little bit at this scene (Ryan being told about the award.)

I love Mr Drew. And Mr Goddard ain't bad either.

OddBoots · 03/11/2011 21:22

I'm watching, and getting a bit teary as the mum of a son with asperger's.

Georgimama · 03/11/2011 21:25

Also feeling v v sorry for Vinny. Why is he in care? He just looks so sad and angry.

shesparkles · 03/11/2011 21:25

I feel very sad for Vinnie- never has it been so obvious how a horrible set of circumstances can push a youngster down the "wrong" road :(

misslaughalot · 03/11/2011 21:30

I'm a trained teacher (although not currently working as a teacher) and I wish Michael Gove would watch just 10 minutes of this wonderful programme to see what life is really like in schools today...

Poor Vinnie. Poor teachers. Agree - this has been an amazing series.

Mrsfluff · 03/11/2011 21:48

I have loved the series. Seeing what some children have to go through Sad Watching Ryan talk about school and his future brought a lot oftear to my eyes

MollieO · 03/11/2011 21:51

Sounds cliched to say but makes me realise how much of an influence parents are on their children. Ryan will be ok because his mum clearly adores him. Vinnie is struggling because of a practically non-existent relationship with his mum. I thought the teacher was very wrong to blame his behaviour for being in care. His mum had a lot to do with it too.

misslaughalot · 03/11/2011 21:55

I totally agree mollie. I found I could forgive children for a lot of things once parents evening had been and gone. It really makes you realise why some kids are the way they are.

And now Ryan is making me cry AGAIN!

Crikey, between Goddard tearing up and the kid with Aspergers doing this lovely speech, I'm actually crying!

Hassled · 03/11/2011 21:55

Oh my word - Ryan. What a wonderful kid.

Bue · 03/11/2011 21:55

RYAN - that's his name

Hassled · 03/11/2011 21:58

I'm a blubbering wreck at this stage

misslaughalot · 03/11/2011 22:00

There has to be another series, can't do without my fix of Mr Drew and Mr Goddard!

PinkPussyCat · 03/11/2011 22:02

Between watching this and reading the 'memories of your grandparents' thread I feel like I've been crying all blimmin evening

How lovely some of those teachers are...

Caoimhe · 03/11/2011 22:07

Oh dear, I cried at Ryan's speech - what a lovely, lovely boy!

Poor Vinnie - I really wanted a happy ending for him.

Mr Goddard and Mr Drew (and all the other teachers) are amazing!!!!

perfumedlife · 03/11/2011 23:25

Just watched this for the first time tonight, what a lovely boy Ryan is. So is Vinny, just sad that he dropped back on his progress but living in care can't help. Wish I knew the back story with his mother.

Mascara all over the place her too Sad

Charbon · 03/11/2011 23:38

The back story with Vinnie (featured in earlier episode) is that his parents split up and his Dad was apparently more interested in spending time with his new partner than with Vinnie. Mr. Goddard said that the his Dad had been a very involved father until his new partner came on the scene Sad. While I can't imagine allowing a son of mine to enter the care system, I do feel the Mum has had a bit of a raw deal here and the Dad should be hanging his head in shame. Vinnie was apparently a model student before the break-up and is why the staff loved him so much and went the extra mile for him.

Wept buckets tonight at the lovely Ryan, but also felt so sad for Vinnie watching the others go to the Prom. I'll miss this programme.

bruffin · 04/11/2011 09:05

There is also a little brother involved and the school are doing everything they can to stop him going down the same path as Vinnie.

perfumedlife · 04/11/2011 09:15

Thanks Charbon. I didn't hear any mention of Vinny's dad lastnight, and of course his absence is going to be a huge problem. Maybe his mum felt a short sharp shock about how hard it really is out there would jolt Vinny back to reality. It was heartbreaking to see him on the sidelines of the Prom, if that was my boy my heart would be heavy Sad

I really hope he goes to college for his exams, he was so close to doing well.

pommedechocolat · 04/11/2011 09:20

I have LOVED this series and devoured every episode. Poor, poor Vinnie. It didn't become real to him until prom and results. Mr Goddard tearing up and saying he'd 'failed' made me cry a little. The fuss over the hair was silly though - they should have let that go.
Ryan was adorable, I hope he carries on to make a success of everything he does.
