Never watched it but constantly hear about it here there and everywhere. Is it scripted? Are they real people trying to act in a soap opera like drama? I just don't understand it!

They are real people re-enacting stuff that really happened for the benefit of the cameras, in scenarios that are completely spontaneous and not set-up in any way at all. Add to that the quality of the acting and you'll find the whole programme a delight.

Hard to tell.... re the scenarios that are completely spontaneous and not set up... sarcasm?

I caught 2 minutes of it the other day when these 2 women were going to someone's house and chit chatting and I thought, that cannot be like a fly on the wall type thing. The camera is right there and they must have shouted 'action!'.

Yes, sarcasm :o. It's worth a watch, though - it's so bad it's good.

MelinaM · 03/11/2011 14:48

Yes, a moronic programme watched by moronic peopleGrin ...much the same as the X-Factor et al, you get the ideaWink

tiredemma · 03/11/2011 15:03

I think that the 'stars' had to convince the casting panel that they had received full frontal lobotomies before being considered as suitable for the show.

Are you a 13yo girlie? No, strike that, otherwise you wouldn't be asking would you? Just wanted to say that if you were, its for you. In between episodes of Made in Chelsea which is pretty much the same but with bigger yachts, houses and longer hair on the boys. Unlikely you'll actually be able to understand either due to the strange accent (although my 13yo can interpret both far quicker than her french homework...). I wouldn't know, am up to my eyeballs in cerebral viewing such as Real Housewives of etc etc, far, far more demanding.

valiumredhead · 03/11/2011 16:17

They are put in situation which are set up - then film it. Bloody fab! Grin

fartmeistergeneral · 03/11/2011 18:22

Ah, you've used Real Housewives as a reference point. NOW I get it! The same kind of thing! Love RHoNY!!

Only started watching it halfway though the last series but I bloody love it... It's so crap it's brilliant!! Grin

JinxAndFluff · 04/11/2011 14:21

Actually, I was being terribly, terribly unfair on the RHoNY comparison as LuAnn et al are much better actresses more genuine. Or maybe I meant much worse actresses...I refer my 13yo DD on a regular basis to Ramona on how to do "I believe I may have dust in my eye" for her drama class. Normally she just pours me another glass of Ramona Pinot Grigio and swans off to the TV in the kitchen for more TOWIE or 'Chelsea' as I will have been hogging the one in the lounge for hours watching back to back RHoNY....how did one do teenage childcare before reality TV?

fartmeistergeneral · 04/11/2011 22:47

What I want to know is, how on earth are we expected to believe that the RHoNYC are actually friends??!

I accidentally caught a couple of minutes of this the other day.

Seemed very tedious.

There was a young gay lad talking to a drag queen.

SkinnyGirlBethany · 05/11/2011 13:14

Dahhhllliing the RhONy is far superior to towie

I need a skinny cocktail! Grin

TCOB · 05/11/2011 13:15

There is nothing to understand or deconstruct with TOWIE. it is quite simply the shittest show in TV. I love it Grin.
