Soooooooooooooo I still reckon Cora to kick the bucket, shuffle of this mortal coil, sing with the choir eternal etc etc

I bet Jane is handy with a shorehorn for Lord 6, he's been out of action for a while so may need some help.

And wedding is Sybil and Branson.

So nothing important happens to anyone important, enabling JF to preserve the Matthew / Mary / Sir R / Lavinia / Lord Grabthem / House-maid tanglethrough to Series 3 (by which time we'll all be bored).

FlamingoBingo · 31/10/2011 12:41

Sorry to leap into this thread as I did last time. So rude of me.

Has anyone else enjoyed counting the number of times someone comes into a room and says 'Ah, there you are!' to whoever was already in there?

Avantia · 31/10/2011 12:41

I love them saying 'luncheon'.

I am going to have my 'luncheon' soon and watch the 'luncheon time news'.

ThePsychicSatsuma · 31/10/2011 12:44

so is it on nxt sunday? thoroughly confused thought it had finished ...

megapixels · 31/10/2011 12:54

The Sybil/Branson thing seems implausible and awkward to me too. She doesn't even seem to like him, just that she wants out of Downton, but to confuse things she runs away with him and then there's the bit about her saying something about being true to him or some such nonsense. Previously she told Mary that Branson was full of himself (in assuming that she would be interested in him). It looked like she just saw him as an equal but he took it to mean that she was interested in him as a potential partner. He seemed so creepy the way he grabbed her waist in the garage.

Sir R is getting more and more villainous (?) by the day. Poor Mary. What a life to look forward to.

AKMD · 31/10/2011 12:59

Yes, on next Sunday.

LadyHarrietDeSpook · 31/10/2011 13:00

There is another episode on Sunday, then the XMAS special.

have found spoilers...

diddl · 31/10/2011 13:07

"Not really sure if Mary and Matthew have much of a spark."

Thank goodness I´m not the only one!

Isn´t the funeral for one of the staff?

Didn´t see family in the trailer.

ThePsychicSatsuma · 31/10/2011 13:38

matt and mary are subduing their feelings as they are both engaged, would be unheard of/ v v rude to act passionately with each other, when they are both tied up into contracts

ThePsychicSatsuma · 31/10/2011 13:39

plus has mary told sir R about pamuk? can't remember. if so she knows he can ruin her.

ThePsychicSatsuma · 31/10/2011 13:40

and will someone tell lord 6 about pamuk - bet it comes out on cora's deathbed hahahaha

diddl · 31/10/2011 13:41

Yes, of course-although when Mary was saying that cousin P was an imposter & what about Matthew, I thought that she gave herself away then.

But if they care so much-why did Matthew get engaged to someone else?

FlamingoBingo · 31/10/2011 13:52

Psychic - yes, she told him so he could stop Mrs Bates taking hte story to the papers.

limitedperiodonly · 31/10/2011 13:55

How did Ethel end up leaving? Why weren't the other servants curious about her?

limitedperiodonly · 31/10/2011 13:59

Also I reckon Thomas wouldn't have destroyed that stuff. He'd have had a go at selling it on to some unsuspecting dupe.

He'd have probably repackaged the plaster dust flour as formula and sold it to Ethel for baby Charlie.

GeorginaWorsley · 31/10/2011 14:06

Now I think Mary and Matthew do love each other, just rewatched the 'if you were the only girl in the world' scene on Youtube and the look in both their eyes.....
Matthew only talked about Lavvy in terms of duty and letting her down to Dowager last night, not love.

anonacfr · 31/10/2011 14:20

I can't believe some people think Sybil and Branson are a cute couple.
I still get abuser vibes from him- he was so horrible to her when her sisters showed up. Surely if he loved her at all he would want her to make peace with her family rather than never be able to see them again? It's the whole 'you don't need anyone else you have me' scenario.

And we went from Sybil spending the odd couple of minutes her and there in his garage looking apprehensive to her talking about leaving her old life to finally being completely madly in love with Pickle. All in one conversation. Mmm. Hmm

In other news Edith is now great. And most of the storylines are now dull as *t. Thomas? Yawn. Earl and maid? Yawn. Anna and Bates? Double yawn. I hope he actually murdered his wife. That would make things interesting.

diddl · 31/10/2011 14:25

I also think that Edith is great.

Come on Matthew, ditch Lavinia & Mary & go for Edith!!

I really can´t decide about Mary if she loves Matthew-or if it´s still all about Downton-or she hasn´t forgiven him for not accepting her-or just doesn´t want anyone to be happy.

I think it wasn´t Lavinia in the bed in the trailer as Matthew wasn´t there & the family were.

Oh-Matthew?

Animation · 31/10/2011 14:32

"Anna and Bates? Double yawn. I hope he actually murdered his wife."

Grin I agree.

Hmm, and dodgy storyline there that his wife really would ask him to do her a favour and nip to the chemists to get rat poison.

Animation · 31/10/2011 14:38

Yes Bates is coming across as a bit of a slime ball tbh. Confused

jumpingjackhash · 31/10/2011 15:04

just discovered this thread!

Question - what is the link between O'Brien and soap? Lost on that one.

I love a bit of DA as much as the next person, but anyone else get a bit frustrated with the time fluctuations between/during episodes?

heroinahalfshell · 31/10/2011 15:12

In the first series O'Brien put soap on the floor next to the bath she had run for Cora deliberately making her slip and killing her unborn child.

limitedperiodonly · 31/10/2011 15:14

O'Brien thought Cora was going to get rid of her so put some wet soap on the bathroom floor. Cora slipped on it and miscarried her baby. O'Brien is haunted by guilt.

Has anyone in real life ever slipped on soap?

limitedperiodonly · 31/10/2011 15:15

x-post

diddl · 31/10/2011 16:18

The chap who played the Major´s father-isn´t he married to the woman who plays Mrs Hughs?
