I'm finding the Sybil/Branson thing extremely implausible. I think it is unlikely at that date a chauffer would have declared his love to the boss's daughter.
If she wanted to continue working she could have trained as a nurse in peacetime. Her parents may not have liked it but if she was determined she could have done it.

Yorkshire to Gretna Green without them catching up might just have been doable but not if you stop overnight, especially not if you leave the car on the road!

I don't think Mary was being a bitch, I think she's dreading living with Sir R, without anybody else, especially after he said they may move away from Downton. I loved Carson's reminiscing though, very sweet.

Looking at the preview for the next episode somebody is definately dead. I think it MUST be Cora - lots more dramatic possibilities that way. If it was Carson they'd just get another butler.
