Watching with interest as a friend does this with her two girls.

Watching too, think so far it's fine tbh, least they are exercising.

TwoIfBySea · 26/09/2011 22:17

I always think this is more gymnastics than dance, just seems to be a lot of thrashing around and no rhythm to it at all.

5inthebed · 26/09/2011 22:22

The only thing that gets me is the makeup, false tan and on occasion the very revealing dance suits.

Certainly dd's gymnastics looks harder than this!
I'm not sure how they mark the skills. The little girl with mum that owns a flower shop looks familiar! Brooke looks like a good little dancer, and mum is clearly trying hard to keep her on straight.

KatyMac · 26/09/2011 22:31

I thought the mum from the flower shop looked familiar too

I don't really like DF like this but it is popular

please let me not be like this

5inthebed · 26/09/2011 22:33

They just like they are throwing themselves around the dance floor Hmm

My friend puts pics on FB where her girls are stretching, they are very bendy.

Quite surprised I've not sen her girls TBH as they are in the NE.

I don't like the make-up

crazynanna · 26/09/2011 22:50

My grandaughter does this, and a couple of the girls' in the programme are who she competes with. (Not watching as don't have the channel). She got first in the last to comps...what she shows me is a lot of gymnastic moves, which she says is the bit she loves. Not sure about the outfits though. But then,I am what is classed now as old fashioned.Smile

LittleMissWoodscommaElle · 26/09/2011 22:51

I've not seen it but from the description this has got to be freestyle dance comps right??

A girl who had done freestyle came to the classes I run. We expected from her background that she would be good. We were amazed that she has zilch technique.

crazynanna · 26/09/2011 22:51

last two comps.

lisad123 · 26/09/2011 22:56

Think Brooke and Megan are pretty good, clearly do more than freestyle.

KatyMac · 26/09/2011 22:57

At least no-one is upset that they didn't 'win'

DD does comps but it isn't like that (or at least I don't perceive it like that)

5inthebed · 26/09/2011 22:57

Yes LittleMiss, freestyle.

The false tan and makeup is not my cup of tea.

crazynanna · 26/09/2011 22:59

Arrgh wish I had the channel Sad

LittleMissWoodscommaElle · 26/09/2011 22:59

Not mine either.

Dd does ballet, tap, modern and jazz. Small amounts of make-up just so that faces are not washed out under stage lights. tasteful costumes.

This girl is bendy come to think about it. Was great for a physical theatre piece where she turned herself into a chair.

LittleMissWoodscommaElle · 26/09/2011 23:01

Hows your dd's new schedule going Katymac ?
(Have namechanged from Elphaba to Elle Woods in honour of the Legally Blonde tour)

KatyMac · 26/09/2011 23:04

Currently she is thriving; but it is only week 2

I am watching out for tiredness/illness etc but she seems happier and more calm/tranquil iyswim with extra energy

The private Ballet is going well; the teacher says she is in the wrong class (but she can't do any others due to other classes)

MummyPenguin · 27/09/2011 13:28

Out of all of them I think Brooke was the best dancer. The sisters from Newcastle, I didn't think they were that good really. The youngest one who got a trophy wasn't too bad and was better than her Sisters. Some of the fake tan looked awful, especially on the backs of their hands, like it hadn't been rubbed in at all.

Gr8audios · 23/09/2013 00:14

How can this be called dance? It is the same moves over n over again. On top of that the girls have no dance qualifications if they wanted to take their efforts into performing arts such as theatre.

The dance teachers and organisers such as Karen Llewelyn rip people off. They hire a caravan park at haven and will charge you £200 per person in that caravan where as you can hire these vans direct from the park for £200. There are are other dance organisers who do the same throughout the country. Dance teachers with this programme are registered throu ADFP who are a faceless body and won't speak to parents or anyone who has concerns there are no telephone numbers either. On top of this ADFP allow teachers who have only passed a basic criminal disclosure check to work with kids it is supposed to be an enhanced disclosure.

Unless you have lots of spare cash i would invest your money with a school who is registered with someone like the IDTA and one that can give your child some form of recognised qualification later in life for a career
