Horse in the House

Anyone remember this from the 70s?
It was about a girl whose parents went away and she decided to bring her horse to live in the house. The two main things I remember are that the horse was called Orbit and there was a scene where he had been stolen and the girl had found him on a barge and had to get on his back and jump him from the deck of the barge onto the canal bank.

Reason I'm asking is that my friend bought me a huge cuddly horse for my birthday (She asked me what I wanted and as my real pony has just died ()I said "a new horse" so that's what I got!). I decided to name him Orbit but got loads of blank looks from assembled friends and family as it seems I'm the only one who remembers the programme.

One thing is driving me mad. I know that the horse they used in the series was a stallion standing at stud at the time (used to be advertised in horsey magazines)but I can't remember his name.

You'll probably all think I'm mad now! In my defence I've been out for my birthday and drunk rather more wine than I'm used to. Great evening though

Don't remember it myself... I'll ask my sister though, If anyone remembers it, it'll be her!! Is it recent that your pony has died? Much sympathy as I know how it feels to lose an equine friend {{hugs}}

I don't remember the programme but I'm sure I've read a book by the same name & with the same characters. Sorry to hear about your pony,I know how it feels too.

Ah well, never mind. Now I'm sober it doesn't seem quite so important! Thanks for the replies anyway.

It's been three weeks since I had to have my boy put to sleep but it seems to have zipped by. He was 28 years old and I'd had him for 23 of those so it's a big wrench.

If anyone reasonably near to Brighton knows of a family cob, 14hhish and bombproof looking for a guaranteed good home, let me know! Must be suitable for my mum (pension age), me, my sister and 2 kids (1 disabled). Maybe I should put this in the 'wanted' section

I have the book too - it's available second hand on amazon here - one of my favourites, I wanted to be Melanie (and I was over 20 when I read it )!

imdb cast and crew. Unfortunately Orbit doesn't get a credit. (Pete Postlethwaite was in it!)
