Are caesearean mothers not allowed/are unable to hold their babies?

Or was that just a cruel aspect for the prisonner?

:(

FairyArmadillo · 04/07/2011 21:20

I was sad for the woman still in chains last week. She wasn't exactly in any condition to escape.

sailorsgal · 04/07/2011 21:21

When you have a c-section you are hardly fit to run away.

katkitya · 04/07/2011 21:46

Ibsaw the first one. Didn't enjoy it at all. What's with having a sixth baby when your other five have already been given up for adoption? I couldn't help thinking that some of them had done it to have an easier time of it.

It's sad. The armish family look lovely though. Sad

TYBear · 04/07/2011 22:30

I have had two sections and held both DC's skin to skin after they were born.

katkitya · 04/07/2011 22:50

Why get pregnant though when you know you face a long jail sentence? What happens in this country?

TYBear · 04/07/2011 23:12

Kat I don't think they planned it to turn out that way!

katkitya · 04/07/2011 23:18

I'm just in a cynical mood!! Thank god sone of them have family support. I did feel sorry for the one who had her second child but then when she said that she was glad she got to keep him because she never got to keep het two year old daughter. Only two years ago and she's in again???? Don't you think she might have learned her lesson the first time?

WesternIsle · 05/07/2011 21:01

In her defence, your honour, she said that she fell pregnant whilst out on bail, and was gutted to have done so, so not two separate crimes.

What about the other 59? I have high hopes for the firstimers sadly, the others I'm not convinced. It's very sad

I became curious and did some googling about this and the first result was the prison service's page on women prisoners.

www.hmprisonservice.gov.uk/adviceandsupport/prison_life/femaleprisoners/

It makes for one hell of a depressing read. 55% have a child under 16 according to that web page, although other articles have said the number is around 66%. There are extremely high levels of mental illness amongst prisoners and a large minority self-harm. Half report being victims of abuse in the past. Bleak stuff.

Oh this is for the UK btw Blush
