"it's a great series, about a serial killer, who only murders murderers.."

I have recently got seriously into the TV series Dexter! A friend of mine kept telling me how brilliant it is, but I didn't think a TV series about a serial killer would really be my thing. But turns out, it is Shock

Problem is, now I want to recommend it to other friends but I have been unable to do so without making it sound horrible - along the lines of, "it's a series about a serial killer who also works as a blood spatter analyst for the miami metro... he only kills people because he saw his mother get killed as a child... his adopted dad was in miami metro too and taught him a "code" so he doesn't get caught, and he only kills murderers..." and so it goes on, I can never adequately describe it Blush

Any of you watch Dexter? Ever successfully explained it to someone without sounding crazy? I am half way through season 4 now so please try not to give anything away...

Watched the last episode of season 4 last night Sad

Although, I had a feeling something was going to happen as....

(spoiler coming up)

....

...

.. there was quite a lot in season 4 about different priorities, several things hinting that either he had to give up killing, or give up his family. I thought, he won't give up killing otherwise there won't be a 5th or 6th series. So it must be the family..

Also, how is he going to explain to miami metro why the trinity killer killed his wife and why he was targeted?

If Dexter had "normal" feelings, I would not want to watch any more. Similarly, after the last episode of House season 4 (the part with Cutthroat Bitch), I cried for about half an hour and didnt want to watch House ever again.

However, because Dexter is emotionally detached from the family, I found this easier to accept. Hm. Might watch season 5 after all.

I picked up book 3 or 4 (the one where he meets his brother?) and quickly understood the whole thing. Have never seen the TV programme. Don't think you need to start at the begining.

Noooo! I said spoiler!

Oh shucks, sorry, is that really an important spoiler I posted? I left out a lot... anyway, I read it years ago, If you scan threads the way I read cornsilk's reply well before I saw twyc's "Spoiler" warning, anyway.

I haven't seen series 4 yet. Loved series one, not keen on that woman in series 2. didn't really get into series 3.

Jamie Murray lets Season 2 down because she can't act while everyone around her can.

She's busy not acting in the Sky1 series Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, but because it's so hammy her uselessness is masked as a deliberate technique.

I think I am alone in being the only one who liked Jimmy Smits' character in season 3.

Was very sad at the end of season 4, which surprised me as I found 's character really annoying. It just seemed a v sad way for the character to leave.

I totally agree Goth! I couldn't stand *'s character

I love Dexter. Series five is really good too; can't wait for series six!

I've rewatched the first few series and was reminded how much I hated stupid really put-on British accent woman and how happy I was at the ending to her story...
