you're right there, it was only when you realised he was talking about himself that it got interesting. they must have decided we needed some background info.

Yeah, I got really fed up with the first 20 minutes thinking how boring it was, but it was pretty clever the way it turned into his story, I thought. Sets the scene for the stuff with his ex next week too, I guess.
