Anyone planning on watching this? I'm quite interested, Winslet doesn't really do it for me but the cast looks good and I'm really interested in the story (despite never having read the book).

?

When is it on? I'll definitely give it a go.

I haven't read the book but have seen the old film starring Joan Crawford (If you haven't seen it, it's pretty good too, and might be worth a look after you've watched the TV series.)

The original film with Joan Crawford is great. Who's the author of the book? Would love to read it.

DuelingFanjo · 27/03/2011 22:24

when does it start?

PfftTheMagicDragon · 27/03/2011 22:32

It starts on HBO tonight, so assume SKY Atlantic will be showing it soon. Hold on....

Apparently starting in April, trailer here:

The book is James M. Cain, and apparently is lots better than the Crawford film, I think they changed a lot of things, so it will be interesting to see what they do with the show. Evan Rachel Wood, though very annoying, is an excellent actress and seems like she is perfect for the spoiled daughter role. And yay for Guy Pierce.

I Love the original film with Joanie- not a Winslet fan either but will give it a go- already forewarned DH-

womma · 30/03/2011 08:56

Yes, I'm going to watch it. Not the biggest Winslet fan either, but Todd Haynes directed it so it will be great.

Who'd have thought Mike from Neighbours would go on to be such a big and brilliant actor?

PfftTheMagicDragon · 30/03/2011 09:15

I know, womma! He is pretty impressive these days. Winslet is odd. I find that I appreciate that she's good, but I don't really enjoy her performances, don't find her very likeable. Which is a bit strange.

I'm trying to wait for it to come on Sky rather than find other ways of watching it.

Hmm, just checked Sky and it just says coming soon...I'm sure I saw a trailer for it though and I think it's on over Easter, so a little bit more of a wait.

I'm going to try and see the Joan Crawford film before it comes on. I don't think it's a jolly romp!

PfftTheMagicDragon · 30/03/2011 10:58

lol womma Grin

I was thinking of trying to get through the book before it started.

Ooh, that's a good idea. I don't think I'll get round to it before hand, but I'm going to put it on my Amazon wishlist.

I'm looking forward to it being on now! Might have to stock up on handie andies though, I am a blubber Smile
