Oh, don't get sky Sad.

shimmerysilverglitter · 20/03/2011 17:32

I have the boxed set, just working through Season 5 - Doug has just left Sad, but on the other hand there is an episode I have never seen before with Peter Benton providing doctor cover at a small medical centre in a backwoods town in Atlanta, which was great so that cheered me up a bit.

beachholiday · 20/03/2011 17:35

I also never saw the Benton one you mention until I got the boxed set Shimmery. And I thought I was watching religiously at that stage. |I wonder if they left it out.

The box set is a joy. And some of the early episodes of ER are just still fantastic TV.

It was such a fantastic series, nothing medical has ever come close to it. I am dreadn mark greene dying again, think i will need a week off work to recover

I honestly don't think I will be strong enough to watch the Mark Greene one again. I cried my eyes out while watching it and felt sad for days after I watched it before.

Got a good deal on my Boxed set from Amazon as well it was worth every penny. I really love Carter this time round as well, he is just so sweet where I thought him a bit of a wimp when I was younger.

beachholiday · 20/03/2011 17:54

When they interviewed Alex Kingston for the series finale a couple of years ago she still got distressed talking about shooting those final Mark Greene scenes.

Its so rare for TV to do a lingering (but not melodramatic) death. Anthony Edwards really did all that very well.

shimmerysilverglitter · 20/03/2011 18:03

At the end of the episode it goes back to the ER and Rachel has sent a letter saying he has died and you just feel the complete bleakness that the ER will not be the same again without Dr Green but life has to go on, deary me I am tearing up just thinking about it.

beachholiday · 20/03/2011 18:58

Really, if you ever need a good cry thats the set of episodes to go for...

littleomar · 20/03/2011 19:03

i didn't get into ER until the series where Mark Green died. i've watched the first series on sky atlantic and just started the second. loving it. doug ross storm drain one is up next. medical-drama-hating DP is horribly hungover and i'm hoping he'll go to bed really early so i can watch it tonight.

shimmerysilverglitter · 20/03/2011 19:05

Actually it may have been Dr Corday who sends the letter then. Do you remember the bit where the camera just pans round the ER, playing that song as though it is Marks last view of the ER . I am far to fragile to actually watch it again though I think.

threetimesabridesmaid · 21/03/2011 06:33

Also working my way through box set - up to season 13. I think episode 1 of season 13 is the best ever - watched a couple of nights ago & sobbed my way through! Have loved coming across the episodes that I'd never seen before.

KnittingRocks · 21/03/2011 08:25

Oh god, yes the Dr Greene episodes are heartbreaking. We lost a friend to a brain tumour around the same time which made them almost unbearable to watch Sad.

Dr Pratt dying in the last series was also incredibly sad - and totally unexpected Sad.

Maybe I need to invest in the boxed set too!

mosschops30 · 21/03/2011 16:30

Also all the people who pop up in it, saul from brothers and sisters and lucy lui last week alone

It was Dr Corday who sent the letter alright - theres one episode devoted to Mark in Hawaii - the one with the song at the end- and then another one with everyone finding out in the ER and the different ways it takes people that day.

Guest -star spotting is amazing: half the cast of West Wing show up in the early years.

Dr Pratt dying was not neccesary I thought!
