And they've got rid of that dreadful Toby character who made my teeth itch.

Just me then Grin

I'd stopped watching it last year because it had become so patronising.

Quite agree. Lovely to see Monty back.

southeastastra · 11/03/2011 21:25

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 11/03/2011 21:27

I missed it.

Thanks for reminding me, thank goodness for iplayer.

Have you read the Ivington Diaries? I am now in love with Monty Don.

GeorgeEliot · 11/03/2011 21:32

what happened to Terrible Toby?

Isn't Monty's garden lovely too.

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 11/03/2011 21:32

I haven't read the Ivington Diaries, and it's not that I particularly love Monty, but I just hated the way GW went last year as they tried to make it more populist. Really made me want to burp, frankly.

This evening's episode felt like proper gardening instead of faffing around with paint and planters.

I will check out the book though Smile

Maybe he's still locked in the Cath Kidstonesque shed George. With the stupid fork handles doors.

"Talking for the first time of his devastation at BBC bosses deciding not to renew his contract, he says: 'There is still a raw wind blowing though me. I go out in the garden and everything looks dead.' "

Twat.

I did like Alys Fowler though - prefer her to Rachel de thame

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 11/03/2011 21:41

Crikey his nose is a bit out joint. To be fair, it wasn't just him, it would be the whole production team who decided to dumb down and came up with the crap content.

But it's like a blissful spring day seeing Monty back again getting his hands dirty and pruning roses.

OP posts:
HumphreyCobbler · 11/03/2011 21:43

I liked Alys too.

bettys · 12/03/2011 18:03

Bliss! Proper Gardener's World

Freezingmyarseoff · 12/03/2011 19:45

I better get humaxing again. I would never have bothered watching GW but armed with this news I'm prepared to be considered a fuddy Duffy gardener by my friends.

TimeForCake · 12/03/2011 21:16

Hooray, hooray, hooray! GW as it should be Grin I can start watching again. Hope Carol's there too, love her enthusiasm and genuine passion. Alys okish for a newbie but not as good as Carol. An improvement on Rachel perhaps.

Mary your description of the terribly dull, wet, Toby is spot on! Lol!

GeorgeEliot · 13/03/2011 17:50

Yup, Carol is still there.

tigana · 13/03/2011 17:53

Really!! Hurrah! Gave up after 3 epidsodes of toby 'ticking' soil back in around plants and the cringey potting shed what hot and whats not childrens TV bollards.
Have the producers learnt their lesson...?

mickeynminnie · 14/03/2011 20:59

bit late to this - but can anyone tell me why everyone (well anyone I read when lurking on gardening forums) seems to hate Joe Swift so much? am new to all this so not really up on who's a "proper" gardener and who's not... mind you half the opinions I read also don't like Monty because he's also, somehow, not a proper gardener Confused

MaryMotherOfCheeses · 14/03/2011 22:42

Dunno, I don't mind Joe Swift.

OP posts:
TimeForCake · 15/03/2011 08:21

Ahhh, I like Joe too. But my fingers aren't green yet so not up on the "proper" gardeners either!

gymbunnynot · 15/03/2011 08:46

All is well with a friday night now Monty is back at the helm. Nothing like the opening credits to GW, glass of wine and Monty's dulcet tones...
