Erstwhile grinning light-entertainment host Matthew Kelly gives a surprisingly strong performance as a serial killer in this dour, often unpleasant, psychological thriller. Kelly plays Brian Wicklow, a prissy, studious and manipulative monster who's in prison for the torture and murder of women. Police are also convinced he killed a young girl, the daughter of one of his victims. To date, Wicklow has remained silent on the matter. But out of the blue he asks to speak to officers. Does he want at long last to confess? Jemma Redgrave plays the naive detective sergeant who interviews Wicklow, with John Hannah as her childhood friend Jake, who also happens to be a freed convicted killer who spent time in a cell with Wicklow.

Interesting. Matthew Kelly was excellent especially coinsidering we weren't given that much info on his crimes. John Hannah (must admit that I find him rather attractive) was also very good but not especially convincing. Perhaps we didn't know enough about him to make a decision. The flashbacks to his separation from his son were heart-rending though and any man who smells his son's blanket..well need I continue?

I thought it was great, but I couldn't get the phrase "Tonight, Matthew, I am going to be Shirley Bassey" out of my head

Matthew Kelly was very good I thought and yes I kept thinking of 'Tonight Matthew, I'm going to be......!'

As for John Hannah - Cor! He is lovely!
