Well, Gil ended up an item with his foxy dentist, appalled that she seemed to have been saving herself for the right man and agonising over what he had committed himself to in time-honoured navel-gazing man fashion.
Meanwhile Bob moved back in with Irene and neither of them were pleased to hear that Bob's mother left all her money to Gil in her will (remember the opening scenes in the first episode where the poor old lady is one of Bob's possessions slung onto the lawn by Irene, and Gil bends down to pick up her spoon?)
They were even angrier when Gil told them he would give the money to WWF instead (he visited the old lady and heard how she had hated both Bob and Irene, and felt just handing them back the cash was betraying her wishes).
Alice discovered her cousin's wife Philippa was going to prison for nine months for embezzlement and agreed to help her cousin and his teenage daughter out while Philippa was inside. Alice got on famously with both, found herself falling for her cousin, then his wife met someone else in prison. All seemed clear for Alice and cousin to get together when he confessed he loved their OTHER cousin, drippy married Janice.
The ending showed Gil and Alice under the same roof for the first time, having been dragged along to the theatre by his gf and her cousins (as cover for their affair) respectively. They sat poker-faced and miserable amid a sea of laughing faces while Eric Satie's Gnossienne wafted over the scene...very bleak I felt.
